110116. Another of the Seven Seas Brewery beers that I had on tap at the Lava Lounge in Vanuatu. This beer was so much better than the Texicana it is hard to believe that they came from the same brewery.
While traditionally porters are more of a cold weather beer than a beer that you would drink in sweltering heat and stifling humidity this beer went down well. It poured a thick black colour with a head of slightly off white foam and there were aromas of chocolate and coffee coming off the beer.
In the mouth the beer had an initial thinness to it however it became fuller as you drink it. Slightly bitter with a distinct coffee, and chocolate flavour it finished long with a roasted malt aftertaste.
It is always nice to have a good beer in a good location and this was one of those occasions. The lava lounge is located right on the water overlooking the bay and harbour of Port Vila and offers spectacular views.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark brown with no head. Chocolatey character. Slightly sweet. Finishes a little fudgey. Basic, but probably the best beer in Vanuatu.
