(On tap) Clear, dark brown with a warm, reddish hue and a creamy off-white - close to beige - head. Unusual aroma of wood and dried fruit. Medium body with dry, roasted malt accents, some dried fruit and wood. Dry and lightly burned bitterness. Unusual - almost a British style Old Ale. But very nice. 080208

Dredd (972) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - MAR 7, 2007
found the aroma on this quite low. Poor head retention, very dark colour and strong malt in this, but it finishes very short which is quite disappointing.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2006 Draught at the brewpub. Chestnut brown. Aroma of salty licorice and dried fruits. Very sweet with full to medium body and soft mouthfeel, mango is evident. Lingering salty finish. Like a sweet fruit punch.

JoeMcPhee (9549) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 1, 2005
Very dark brown with copper and ruby tints. Thin off-white head. Very sweet, almost treacly aroma. Molasses, and some heavy and sweet pudding-like spices. Flavour is quite chewy, sweet and spicy malts, a touch of licorice, coffee and chocolate. Toasted malt finish lasts and lasts. Like drinking a dessert.

23/03/2005. A glass at Shakespeare’s brewpub in Auckland. Again a bit cold. Tar-like appearnace with a strong roasted malt aroma and bitterness that follows the sweet malt introduction. Not a bad drop at all, but head the warning - this proved to be TheGrandmaster’s minefield, as a potted plant at the viaduct could verify.

TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 23, 2005
Handle from Shakespeare Tavern. Very dark this beer and only a thin head. Aroma reminds a little of coca-cola which doesn’t impress. A soapy taste and a little coffeeish.

Sully (1380) - Potts Point, New South Wales, AUSTRALIA - DEC 3, 2003
Very dark and foreboding looking. The head is a good contrast to the body and lasts well. The taste of this is very plummy and toasty, the latter giving it a smoky presence. The hops are quite prominent here and have a good balance with the mouthfeel and body of the brew.

Kaya161 (1142) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 8, 2002
Almost black in colour witha a lasting tan head. Awseome fruitcake/plum/raisin aroma!!. The flavour is fairly sweet, richa and fruity, with a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied, coating mouthfeel.

beerledgend (1196) - Waterloo, Wellington, NEW ZEALAND - OCT 9, 2001
Served only in 2 litre 'pets' or on tap. Very dark with creamy head. strong toffe flavour. Make sure to take a cab home after a night out with this beer.
