Bottle. Pours a murky brown with a thin tan head. There’s a bit of a phenolic aroma with is off putting. Not much to the flavor, its sweet and malty up front with nothing at the finish. Brown’s are one of my favorite styles and this is just okay. I wouldn’t purchase it again but would drink it if offered. Tonkun (1296) - New Jersey, USA - JAN 3, 2013
Bottle. Dark red brown pour with a nice head that left a nice lacing on the edge. French toast, brown sugar, caramel, clay. Mild carbonation initially probably due to the sweetness but get a bit more lively. I struggle with the sweet clay like taste but decent.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours burnt sienna with off-tan head. Nose is earthy vienna malt, hops, brown sugar, mild vinous fruit. Tastes earthy, malty, with notes of brown sugar, cacao, and lactic creaminess. This one is a very noce brown ale. phillybass (117) - Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 23, 2012
A dark malty beer. Smooth and round session style beer. but perhaps lacking complexity necessary to make it stand out.

Draft @ Coalhouse Pizza. This is a malty brown ale with nice dark fruit and heavy spice complex with being too overbearing. Perfect wintertime ale.

Draft. Pours amber brown with a beige head. Sweet toffee malts, molasses, and light earthy and herbal notes. Decent. sailracer (486) - Massachusetts, USA - DEC 2, 2012
Bottle. Pours a muddy brown with small head. It has a nice malty aroma. The flavor is malty and slightly nutty. Very drinkable and good all around. thornecb (6018) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - NOV 18, 2012
Pours bright mahogany into a Sam glass. Bright micro white head with little retention recedes to skim rim. Sour caramel aromas. Thin with sweet molasses and toffee upfront turning to bitter dried fruit in the lasting finish. SlovakSniper (5561) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 15, 2012
Pours a deep brown with reddish highlights when held to light and a huge fluffy off white head that persists forever. Smells of caramel and light chocolate with a hint of earthy hops. Not much of a nose on this one. The flavor follows the aroma quite well. Caramel, brown sugar, and a hint of chocolate with a touch of earth and mineral water. Medium to thin body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick and bubbly mouthfeel. Old ale is a real stretch for this brew, but at 7.4% I never noticed the abv. This drinks more like a brown ale but even at that its really bland. Nice to try, but I doubt I’d pick it up again.
