An English-style strong ale. This brown ale has great malt depth and drinks like a session beer.

Bottle. Pours a murky brown with a thin tan head. There’s a bit of a phenolic aroma with is off putting. Not much to the flavor, its sweet and malty up front with nothing at the finish. Brown’s are one of my favorite styles and this is just okay. I wouldn’t purchase it again but would drink it if offered.

6-pk at Stiffler’s. Lively carbonation and a bit of sweet nuttiness come through. Apart from that forgettable on the whole; bit of light wheat or corn, sugary and dark bread. Thin body. Could drink a bunch but eh.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2017 Draft at Macs Tavern in Philly. Clear very dark brown amber pour. Not much head or lace. Modestly hoppy Brown Ale. Not much aroma. Tastes of browned citrus rinds, damp cocoa, cola, sassafras and melon. Semi-glossy finish. Meh.

growler6 (170) - Pocasset, Massachusetts, USA - JAN 20, 2017
Not much going on in the aroma department. This is more about the caramel sweetness and hallertau hop spiciness being in sync with a medium body, and cleaner finish than most old/alt (whatever you want to call them) beers. Watch out, the 7.4% buzz factor is well hidden.

Bottle from Bing. Lots of malt with some bitterness. Surprisingly smooth. Nice.

12 oz bottle in a mixed pick at Smugglers Notch. Clear copper with a tight and small tan head. Roasted barley, toast crust, vaguely fruity, slightly vinous, a faint spiciness, lightly sweet, low bitterness, medium body, fine carbonation, sweet treacle finish. Ok.

APPEARANCE- light brown with red tones. Great ’fluffy’ head. NOSE- slightly hoppy in an earthy (not resin or fruit/floral) way. FLAVOR- little bit of hop in the brginning, giving way to great malty flavors and carmel notes. Very thin body. NOTES- billed as a hoppy brown, I think it meets that well.

It’s have a high alcohol content and very smooth. A non IPA taste. Not a huge head which I like. I read the reviews but I really like it. I’d like to try the other offers of SHED brewery.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2016 Tap at Inn. Appearance like Coke, aroma a little Coke-ish, tastes similar to Coke. Perception possibly affected by the fact that I drank this in the same sitting as Heady Topper so it just seems like Coke. Sorry! Really, Coke is good stuff.

Sample @ PGH Beerfest. Pours brown with a thin head. Nice nutty and malty aroma. Taste is pretty enjoyable with roasted nut and malt flavors. OK but not the best one out there.

polo_marco (332) - milton, Vermont, USA - FEB 15, 2016
Small is nutty deep and robust. Hints of wood in there as well. Rich brown color. Nutty taste with nice malt profile finish. Taste could linger on tougue all day and wouldn’t complain. Has the potential to be one of the best brown ales. Nice brew.
