UPDATED: JUL 9, 2006 [The new version] An amber beer with a great head. The aroma is very faint malty. The flavor is malty sweet with hints of smoke and nuts. A fine beer - but not outstanding.

[The original version from 1998 sampled in 2006 - 9.2% ABV] An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of wood and caramel - and so is the flavor, while the mouthfeel is a bit sticky [7/4/7/4/15]

Bottled. Copper colour, foamy beige head, lacing. Fruitish aroma with weak bready hints. Also weak caramelly hints and very weak hints of alcohol. Flavour of sweet malt along with some breadish and roasted notes. Also some hoppy notes. Very smooth flavour and palate.

Nut brown. Full bodied, rich, very nutty, complex and well balanced.........

Copper/orange color, small head. Malty and fruity in the aroma. Also with some fruits, maybe apples. Some hops in the flavor but most of al lthis one is malty and fruity.

Bottled, 500ml, 3.5yrs aged. Orange brown with short lasting head. Sweet vinous malty beer with a strong caramel note, quite toffee like with hints of treacle syrup. Any hop note has disappeared unfortunately, but leaving a reasonable pasteurised bottled beer.

madsberg (11866) - Søborg, DENMARK - JAN 26, 2003
Ligth amber coloured. Not much head. Has a sweet aroma with notes of chocolate. Flavour as well is vague chocolatish and mildly sweet. Is well balanced and has pleasant bitterness in the end.

Skinnyviking (9859) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - APR 13, 2010
Bottle. Low fluffy quickly disappearing off-white head. Hazy amber body. Fruity alcohol caramel cocoa aroma. Sweet caramel fruity honey alcohol flavor with low carbonation and a long aftertaste.

A typical british ale. Nice bitterness from the hops, but too thin and not enough malt. Low head.

Aug 2006: Very disappointed. For a stong English ale, it fell well short. Light in colour, not straw blond, but almost that light. Putting it in a see through glass bottle didn’t help to excite me either. It poured well enough, and produced a good head, which soon disappeared, I might have had the beer too cold though! It did not have the tang of a beer at 6.5% and no real flavours came out and hit my tastebuds, the aroma was also weak. I will try another in a month or so, if the second is better, I will edit this review. I hope the temp, I drank it at is the reason for the low scores. I normally like the beers from Sheperd Neame, although they are normally draught products.
