Bottle from Fenwick, Newcastle. Drank in 2003. A dark amber ale with a strong fruit, full-bodied flavour and a spicy, marzipan finish. jookos (6954) - FINLAND - JUL 4, 2015

Copper golden clear. Honey, malty herbs, some woody notes. Quite fragrant, nice. Med bodied, malty bready, good bitters, herby finish. Rich flavoured malty.
UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 500ml bottle served in a Thumbler glass.
A: Pours an absolutely clear light copper color forming a medium bubbled yellow to beige head. Medium retention but with a thin layer that remains for long time forming and leaving many lacings in the glass
S: Very British in the nose. Strong toffee, caramel malts and nuts upfront. Roasted malts, British yeasts. Quite biscuity with strong notes of British grassy and flowery hops
T: Follows the nose. Slightly sweet caramel malts upfront followed by roasted malts, brown bread, British yeasts and an intense grassy hops bitterness in the end
M: Light body. good carbonation. Grassy and flowery hops aftertaste
O: Easy drinking beer. Strong British ESB character. Great beer. Recommended

Aug 2006: Very disappointed. For a stong English ale, it fell well short. Light in colour, not straw blond, but almost that light. Putting it in a see through glass bottle didn’t help to excite me either.
It poured well enough, and produced a good head, which soon disappeared, I might have had the beer too cold though!
It did not have the tang of a beer at 6.5% and no real flavours came out and hit my tastebuds, the aroma was also weak.
I will try another in a month or so, if the second is better, I will edit this review. I hope the temp, I drank it at is the reason for the low scores. I normally like the beers from Sheperd Neame, although they are normally draught products.
