COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
"Kentish Strong Ale".
First brewed in 1998 as a special @ 10.5% abv to celebrate Shepherd Neame’s tricentenary. A cask version at 4.5% was also released. Was made a pasteurised bottle regular at 6.5% under the name Celebration Ale. Relaunched in March 2005 as a bottle conditioned strong ale @ 6.5% simply as 1698.
Only local hops and malted barley and water drawn from our artesian well are used to brew 1698 Bottle Conditioned Kentish Strong Ale. Hops are added three times, hence it is "thrice hopped".

Botella de 50 cl en la mundial (ya cerrado) de León en agosto de 2012. Bastante suave y ligera para sus 6.5 vol. Se bebe bastante bien y con ligeros sabores y aromas afrutados, dejando al final otra ligera sensación amarga. Se podría repetir.

Best Ale S.N do. Great flavours. Nice and strong. Not too much fizz. Mid bitter and Mid hops. Nice looking and rich taste.

Aroma: Chocolate, hops, dried fruit Taste: Malty, burnt wood, dried fruit, slight hoppiness very dry very bitter finish. Overal: Not a bad ale would drink again but not blowing me away either.

Clear dark amber beer with medium beige head. Aroma is sweet malty, burnt caramel, little biscuits. Taste is mild bitter with some sweet honey caramel notes. Mild body. Bitter aftertaste. Overall good enjoyable beer.

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 17A). Bottle 50 cl - Batch unknown (BBF unknown). AROMA: moderate malty-sweet notes with presence of caramel, light Maillard compounds (roasted bread crust) and esters (dried plums or grapes). hops a bit on the oxidized side. slight alcohol note. APPEARANCE: dark gold color and clear. medium-low ivory head with medium retention. TASTE: medium-high malty-sweet flavor with notes of caramel and faint dried plums and very faint cardboard. bitterness is balanced and medium with a semi-dry and medium-low bitter finish that dries out. PALATE: medium body with medium-low carbonation. OVERALL: an interesting strong ale but where the hops couldnt be detected.

0.5l bottle. Malty aroma, caramel, light coffee notes, light alcohol notes. Clear amber color, white head. Malty taste, coffee, caramel, alcohol notes, light to medium bitter. Full body, slick texture, soft to average carbonation and malty finish with caramel, coffee and light warming alcohol notes. Ok.

Bottle from Lidl. Very soft aroma of hops and honey, clear amber colour without white head. Full body, honey, hops, roasted malt or coffee, dry, quite bitter at the end and bitterness continues on palate. Great beer.
