COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle and can: Filtered.
Launched 1958.
Bishops Finger takes its name from the finger-shaped signposts which pointed pilgrims on their way to the tomb of Thomas a Becket in Canterbury and was the first strong ale to be brewed by Shepherd Neame after malt rationing was eased in the late 1950s. It is one of the UKs oldest bottled beers, brewed since 1958.
Bishops Finger holds EU Protected Geographical Indication, recognising its unique provenance. Uniquely, it is brewed to a charter which states it can only be brewed by the head brewer on a Friday and that it must be brewed using 100% natural ingredients, Kentish hops and barley, and the brewerys own artesian mineral water.

Clear, brown, minimal head, just looks kind of flat and sad in the glass. Medium body, slick feel, rather fizzy. Tastes nice though, clean, resinous hops, good balance with the malt, nice long finish but slightly bitter. Spoiled by the fizziness for me.

Bottle. Copper Orange/Red in colour. Very malty aroma. Malty; roasted malts, buttery caramel, toffee, hint of chocolate. Fruity; citrus-orange. Hoppy, grassy & earthy hops. Slightly salty. Bitter-sweet malty citrus-fruity and dry hoppy throughout. Long dry citrus-orange finish. Very drinkable. (2015-06-15)

Enjoyed: Poured from a bottle into a English pint. Appearance: Dark copper colour, slightly blurry, with small but stable dirty-white head. Aroma: Roasted malt and caramel. Palate: Medium body; medium carbonation. Taste: Bitter- sweet, caramel; reminds of herbal liqueur. Overall impression: Maybe it is not easy to drink (not a thirst quencher), but it is tasty and enjoyable.
