A classic ale to celebrate the birth of Robert Burns, Scotland’ national poet, born January 25th 1759. Full bodied and malty, brewed using Pale, Crystal and Brown malts with generous quantities of the choicest Scottish Oats. A beer to bring poetry to the soul and to warm the cockles of the heart. Savour the flavour for Auld Lang Syne.

Pale ruby with a thin beige head. Aroma of HP sauce on a digestive biscuit, hay, rust and orange wine gum. Thin gruel as usual with vague fennel seed, digestive and chocolate- dusted hay suggestions. Light bodied and fizzing. Late roasted nuts. Barely average.

Bottle from Lidl, Athlone [061016]
Caramel brown, off white head
Aroma - Initial skunk dissipated (clear bottle), sweet caramel malts, toffee malts
Taste of caramel malts, very light bitter hops, malty, some toffee, hint of toasted malt, quite like this, old fashioned
Palate - Soft carb, medium light body, light sweet malts. Finish as main flavour, smooth sweet malts
Overall - Despite initial aroma, better than expected, not too bad, nice to have a malty beer when there are so many hoppy beers about

500ml clear glass bottle, filtered, from Lidl. Cheap as chips. This is a malty beer with some chocolate notes and a fair degree of mustiness rather than bitterness. Tastes old, but not bad. There’s something, for me, quite attractive about a low abv malt accented beer. Easy drinking and quite flavoursome with enough character to make it interesting. There’s not many beers like this, and it could be an opinion divider. I like it.
