There’s a spicy signature to this incredibly complex cockle-warming winter ale. The nose is reminiscent of raisins, dates and molasses while the palate is vinous with tannin-like notes of leather, vanilla, apricots and a hint of rustic Armagnac on the finish. An awesome after-dinner drop.

Bottle bought in Faversham at the Sheperd Neame Brewery Shop and shared with MichaelBruch. Aroma of cinnamon and cookies, colour is amber with steady head. Taste of cookies, roasted grains and lightly toffee. Unwelcome bitter finish.

Bottle shared with McTapps. Aroma of honey, a bit sourness, hops and sweet malt. Complex but very drinkable and 7 abv. Not a rocket, but a nice quality beer.

Amber color with fine beige head. Good sweet and hoppy aroma that quickly disappears. fine woody flavor but a little alcohol strong.

Pasteurized bottle copper colour with a thick bubbly off-white thick lasting head. Smells of strong malt, straw, caramel and wood. Herbal elements on top of a classic bitter nose. Medium to full sticky body with soft carbonation. Light roasted malt with an herbal woody caramel centre, cinnamon, raisin, nutmeg. Just a bit on alcohol and warmness lingers. Very Christmasy

Clear 500ml bottle, poured into my ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged vase shaped pint glass. best before date of Nov 09, drank Sep 09.

Clean, clear and bubbley looking, the colour was a deep amber with a slightly off-white head.

Spices and hops in the nose, but nothing overly strong that I could find. A hint of nuts too?

Good spicey, tangy flavours. Peat fires and smoking jackets come to mind, this isn’t a smoked beer though, just my thoughts coming out when I think of Christmas. Brazil nuts and sugared almonds also appeared in my head as I drank down the brew.

A true Christmas feel to it, the 7% makes it an even more wintery beer, very drinkable in my opinion.

(bottle) Clear, deep amber colour with a medium-sized off-white foamy head. Slightly bready caramel-malty aroma with notes of liquorice and herbal as well as subtle fruity hops, accompanied by spicy notes as cinnamon in the background. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Bready malt-character with well-blended spicy herbal hops and a very subtle fruity touch of citrus; moderately sweet toffee-ish finish with present hops. Good. 25.XII.11
