There’s a spicy signature to this incredibly complex cockle-warming winter ale. The nose is reminiscent of raisins, dates and molasses while the palate is vinous with tannin-like notes of leather, vanilla, apricots and a hint of rustic Armagnac on the finish. An awesome after-dinner drop.

2007 bottle. Dull tired tasting beer. Malty and slightly hoppy but not joined up or balanced. Contrasts oddly with the older bottles with Cherry Brandy and the like which still taste good! 2.0

2010 bottle at the Sun Inn, Kelvedon. Clear amber beer, little white head. Light crisp palate. Rich malt with mild cream. Dried fruits and a little spice and a trace of banana. Improved beyond all recognition of a couple of years ago and now a decent beer!
