500ml bottle from Terre de Boissons, Calais. Black beer dark brown edges with lasting tan head. Creamy chocolate on the aroma. Tasty english style stout. I like it. touch of paper comes on the swallow/finish. Not overly roasty, not too much liquorice. I think pretty solid and I’d happily drink this again. Decent. rlgk (18844) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUL 9, 2015

Keg at Beer Hunters. Dark brown color, good creamy beige head. Aroma has chocolate and hints of vanilla sugar. Light-bodied to medium-bodied. Chocolaty, vanilla-minty flavor. A bit thin for abv but smooth lightly roasted classic stout. Quite sessionable.

Bottle. It pours a clear-looking dark brown body under a dense, finger thick beige head. The aroma is roasted, with some caramel notes and dried fruits. A bit one dimensional perhaps, but sure good. There’s a lightly burnt note in the flavor, with chocolate and coffee, some caramel and dried fruits. It’s full-bodied and dry with a nice carbonation. Lasting roasted finish with chocolate and coffee. A tasteful and pleasant one indeed. 140207 FatPhil (17147) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAR 2, 2013
500ml bottle (Stockmann, Tallinn) Benzai (16751) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JUL 25, 2013
Lovely rich sweet roast aroma. Pretty much black, tight tan head, fairly persistent. Easy in the mouth - roasted and burnt, but not ashy. Soft palate, smooth and full, but quite refreshing with the pleasant gentle carbonation. Burntness peaks in the finish, there’s almost a metallic twang. Very easy drinker, a good example of a proper English stout.

Bottle thanks to Colin. In pours darkest brown with a small beige head. The nose is rich, roasty, coffee, cocoa and dark fruit. The taste is roasted malt, earth, ash, toast, decent bitterness, peppery, bitter cocoa and slight fruitiness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Decent stuff and one of Shep Neame’s best offerings.
