Pours a dark, reddish brown, with a brown head.
Big, toasted aroma, chocolate, coffee, fudge, malt, hops.
Off-dry, medium body and bitterness, creamy CO2.
Toasted, malty taste, chocolate, ashes, caramel, hops, mint.
Nice one for a beer with such low ABV.

UPDATED: APR 15, 2015 1) After-hours promotion party at The Penguin,13/05/12. Bottle in dimpled half pint glass, dancing. Black with ruby glints and a fine tan collar. Weak grilled veg aroma. Cardboard and grilled veg scattered with iron filings taste. Beautiful, sweet refuse. WE ARE GOING UP, WE ARE GOING UP!!!!! 535312.
2) 2 years later, down and not dancing any more. This is a decent low ABV stout and Shep’s best beer by default and by virtue of not tasting exactly like their innumerable other cheapies brewed for supermarkets, Gentle rust, ash and weak black coffee with a smear of bitter chocolate. Very, very easy to chug down just like a good stout should be so scoring it up to 636312.

50 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 24.03.2011berkshirejohn (6771) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - MAR 18, 2012
Aroma has some nice smoke, coffee and roasted malt. Flavour has some coffee, roasted malt and hints of chocolate. Basic, but kind of good stout for this ABV.
50cl bottle from Lidl. Pours the colour of used engine oil with a loose coffee coloured head; the aroma has coffee masking some leafy hops; the taste is sweet and fruity with some dry, deeply roasted, grains adding bitterness and balance; the aftertaste has some damp coffee grounds. A rather good stout.

Bottle from Lidl, Wrekenton, Gateshead. Black with ruby red highlights. Chocolate and coffee flavours with a roasted and slight sour fruity and dry finish. rauchbier (3949) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 8, 2012
Bottle, from Aldi. Jet black, big fluffy but ultimately shortlived beige head and gentle condition. Sweet coffee, chocolate and roasted barley in the nose with some background blackberry fruitiness, full flavoured but quite dry in the mouth with a roasted barley bitterness and bitter coffee bean dominant, some liquorice notes emerging with time but bitterness and chalky roasted barley return to dominate the finish. alexcandy (63) - Whitstable, Kent, ENGLAND - JAN 15, 2012
Aroma-chocolate, maybe a bit of a bleach smell
Appearance-dark brown, maybe with a red tint and a coffee head
