Distinctive coffee aroma and dissipating head greet with the pour. Relatively thin mouth feel and little follow through on the coffee. Hints of choc in the finish.

Bottle from Damian. Serious oxidized-like washing cloth aroma and flavour severely impairs the beer for me. Otherwise it is pretty dry and intensely roasty, but lacking some malty complexity. This is only plain ashy roast.

5.2%ABV. Stout. Poured out black. 40SRM. Nose is sweet with some medicinal aromas. There is a hint of sweet smokiness reminiscent of burnt straw. Stewed fruit and ripe dark fruits and sweet stone fruits in the nose. Brandied cherries. Mouthfeel is soapy and thin. The palate has burnt toast, deep roasted barley malt, Not much sweet in the palate which is very very nice. Dry with ume like herbal preserved fruitiness. The palate is dominated by dry oaky dusty and dry oak leaf flavors. There is a nice bold bitter middle-end to the palate. The bitter is English bitters, sweet charcoal. Finish is woody and dry. Good clean charcoal and ume finish. Goes on Favorites List!

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2016 Pours dark brown color with 1 finger tall creamy hazel head with good retention. Smells coffee, dark bread crust, dark chocolate. The taste is quite faint. Some sourness, some bitterness. Full-bodied, perfect carbonation. I would put overall 14, but the smell is really good.

Thick coffee head. Brownish black color. Smells coffee, roasted bread. Medium-thick body. More roast in the taste and nice bitter finish with roasted bread in it. Good classic example here.
