A Sim rate. Cask at Wandsworth Beer Festival.
Aroma of chocolate, caramel, roast coffee and cream. It’s like chocolate ice cream... or maybe vanilla ice cream with a smothering of Hershey’s syrup. It kept its head in a way that a mild doesn’t usually. The cold evening treated it well as it came from a gravity cask outside. The flavour of bitter roast initially hits the back of your palate like a bittersweet cocoa. Then it’s coffee, dark hot chocolate and an espresso with cream. Dark, rich, so so impressive. I don’t regularly give 4s for palate, but this really stands out. Rich, creamy. Really fills the mouth. So very impressed. Shepheard Neame? Never!
