Hailing from the tradition of 18th Century IPAs, which relied on generous hopping to protect exports during arduous journeys, this modern incarnation retains the strength, body and strong hop character which is synonymous with this beer’s provenance.

A glorious showcase of the distinct, heavily hopped beers for which Shepherd Neame is famed, India Pale Ale delivers potent bitterness, offset with generous amounts of pale ale malt to deliver a balanced, yet uncompromising brew.

Clean pale amber in colour, head is thin and disappears quickly (loses a point!) but otherwise looks good! Light nose of malty caramel and lovely citrus hops, nice! Well hopped palate with slightly sweet malt, the finish goes on for ages with different layers of zesty hops and malt appearing and lingering, delicious! A crackin’ beer, doesn’t feel like a 6.1%, drinks very easily, lovely!

Pint bottle from Dan Murphys - BB obscured... Pours a lovely clear honey amber body with off-white foam. Malt drives the aroma - honey, toast, nuts, toffee with hints of marmalade. Full body, chewy, substantial, slightly sticky with lowish carbonation. More of lovely sweet malts on the palate - almost golden syrup like, hops provide an earthy, dried spicy, glace citrus note and good firm lingering bitterness. Probably touch old judging the character, but an enjoyable pint.

Draught at Bishops Arms Mollberg, Helsingborg, Sweden. Clear copper, medium white head. Fruity and caramelly malt aroma, floral hops. Dry, low to nedium bitterness.

Bottle - Pours a clear copper with decent, creamy head. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Good mouthfeel with sweet malts. NIce, but too sweet for me.

Bottle @ O'Learys, Helsingborg 20170901. Malty, fruity and caramely, dried fruits, medium body with an oily texture. The finish is dry and fruity.

Grassy floral aroma in an amber copper pour. Laid back hop balance with the big malty body totally overwhelming any bitterness in the finish. A tasty brew - but not what you could call an IPA.

Keg from Bishops Arms Östersund. Put as bottle as it is certainly not a cask. Something so warming about this beer, a perfect post autumn walk beer. Hug in the glass. Dark, slightly hoppy, smooth.

OminouSC2 (845) - Mora, SWEDEN - AUG 9, 2017
Copper colored, small white head. Sweet aromas of caramel, malt, dried fruits, syrup and candy sugar. Sweet taste with caramel, candy sugar, malt, bread, dried fruits and bitter honey. Ok beer but nowhere near an IPA (as the label says).

From old tasting notes. Amber orange color. Thick rocky beige head. Malty nose. Dryish toasted malt flavor. Hints of caramel and spice. A good brew, just a little light on the hops for an IPA.
