A classic beer of true quality, Spooks Ale is characterised by its huge biscuity malt palate, derived from three traditional roasted barley malts used in this brew, giving a glorious deep red hue. The excitingly complex malty flavours are wonderfully balanced by a huge citrusy, hoppy bitterness and aroma from a particularly fruity hop added at four stages in the brewing process.

good quality Kentish bitter. Very surprised to find a strong chocolate flavour in this otherwise hoppy wholesome medium bodied standard English bitter.

Pours clear chestnut with a small, staying, creamy, off-white head. Aroma has toasted caramel, nuts, biscuits, light piney. Medium carbonation, fine dry and somewhat grainy mouthfeel. Flavour has toasted caramel, slightly nutty, biscuity. Quite bitter finish. Piney, grassy and light earthy.

Bottle. Pours an amber clear body with a big cloudy off-white head. Aroma is toffee, caramel, grains, hints of pear and red berries. Taste is caramel, grains, dusty hops and hints of dry grass. Thin body, medium carbonation. Fair enough, but very far from a winner in my book.
