Clear, medium gold, adherent to the glass but thinly looking as it rolls upon it, and still. Clean, all apple nose; supple, ripe fruit, core and peel, lightly spicy with a vinous, tannic kick. Good body, firm and well rounded. Fills the mouth well with what seems more a red apple than green. Quite sweet yet drawing, the palate seems to dry out after each swallow yet there is a good lot of residual, tangy fruit left there to play. Slight woodiness and barnyard earthiness builds but doesn’t get in the way of the fruit. A pleasant, devilishly easy drinking Cider.
On tap at Bedford BF ’09. Nothing here except intense, sugary sweetness. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. duff (5486) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 20, 2003
Nice cider. Sweet stinky nose, diapers, cheese, apples, very farmyardy, with a slightly cloying sweetness, interesting. (Cask -GBBF 03') Nuffield (4199) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - AUG 13, 2003
I like to try at least one cider at every British beer festival I go to, and I was not disappointed with this one. The GBBF had a twelve point scale on their casks, from 1 (very sweet) to 12 (very dry), and this was a 1. Clear yellow, the aroma was a delicious blend of apples and lambic-like notes. Unlike some ciders, I really got some apple peel aromas. As it passes your lips, YEE-HAAAW! it is definitely sweet. The sweetness adds a syrupy mouthfeel, and I got the feeling that there was alcohol in there, but it was muted out by the sweet overtones. Without a doubt, you have to like sweetness up front to like this, although it fades in the finish in an admirable way, making it a well-rounded and sophisticated sweet cider.
