Bottled in my studio, London.Appears to be a new product. Labeled 2015. Clear gold. Effervescent apple. Dry, some oak, a little vanilla. Finish is especially dry with oak. Dry apple skin aftertaste. The oak works well with this cider.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at M&S. Vintage 2012. Pours clear gold with a faint bubbly topping. Pleasant aroma, with lightly aged and musty apples, nips of honey, apple skin. Medium sweet flavour with a lightly cutting musty dryness, hints of caramel, earth, leather. Medium bodied with faint carbonation. Somewhat drying on the finish, with further ripening apples, a little bitter skin, old hay. Fun one.

Bottle from Marks & Spencer, Manchester, as M&S Oak Aged Vintage Cider. Paler golden cider with a small dryness. Its apple is light, but its strength not overly evident.

Bottle. The M&S version. Clear, very pale gold. Nose has baked dessert apple. Some sweet oak. Some toffee apple. Taste is soft sweet. Minimal bitterness. Has a curious, rubbery thing going on. A bit of a flabby mouthfeel. Finishes light sweet, with a dry close. The oak seems to have mellowed out any apple tang or bitterness, and as a results feels a bit soggy, overall.

500 ml bottle as “Marks & Spencer Somerset Oak Matured Vintage Cider 2014” bought at M&S in Langham Place, Mong Kok.

Golden yellow colour; Near zero head and faint residual soapy white foam which fades in 5 seconds; No lacing with active and slow carbonation; Very fragrant aroma of apple wine, with fairly strong mustiness, strong wood barrel, light sandalwood, strong yoghurt tartness, strong oxidized apple flesh, apple juice, sugar, light alcohol and tannic; Close to light sweet taste of apple wine, with strong alcohol, strong cellar mustiness, funk, yoghurt tartness, wood barrel, sugar, liquorices, light carbo and tannic; Light body. Watery palate; Mouth feel is strong booze and cellar musty funkiness right in your face. Apple taste is subtle, simmered into the winey background. Woody barrel liqorices and tannin got ampfiied by the booze, which tastes mellower with further sips. Good!... Slightly dry after taste. Boozy and musty to mouth.

Comments: The strong barrel and cellar taste made this one taste like an evolved scumpy, but not quite sublime. Still the funk amplifies the aroma and taste to stronger, if not necessary an all round pleasant level. Drinkable if you are into strong cider.

Scopey (14204) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 9, 2016
Bottle as M&S Oak Matured Vintage Cider 2015. It pours clear pale yellow with minimal head. The nose is quite earthy, apple skin, must, light funk, apple pie, touch of sherbet, hay and oak. The taste is crisp, relatively clean, apple skin, quite earthy, oak, apple pie sweetness, musty, barnyard funk and dry wood with a firm, dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot of depth, but it is nice and dry. Decent.
