Pours totally black with a beige head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, roasty, sugar and soy. Taste is quite dry. Decent. Westkyoto77 (635) - Kyoto, JAPAN - DEC 18, 2014
Bottle at Konohanare, Nagaokakyo. Absolutely pitch black, minimal dark tam head. Muted nose of coffee nibs and dark sugar. Dry as advertised. Dark chocolate, but not over-rich or sticky. Very dry now I think of it. Very nice stuff with fish and chips. KansaiBeerLvrs (5192) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 17, 2014
Today’s St-Patrick’s Day so I decided to drink this dry stout from Shiga Kogen plus attempt to write a review in Japanese as well! A cola brown pour leads to a thin head of brown foam that quickly dissipates. The aroma is roasty chocolate, savoury umami & light soy. Medium bodied, the taste is dark chocolate, roasted malts and some nuttiness with a bitter chocolate finish. Quite good. dfearnley (2201) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - DEC 29, 2013

UPDATED: NOV 30, 2013 Tap at Gar Eden. Chocolate, malty, bit soy, slightly fruity, brown sauce, light smoke. Vanilla. Little touch of coffee. Bit schwarz like. Very easy drinking. Another terrible rating from me.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2014 Bottle from CBB.
Aroma: French Roast coffee beans, black licorice and some unsweetened dark chocolate, smoke
Flavor: equal parts dry, slightly bitter chocolate, smooth coffee and black licorice. Bitter, smooth dark chocolate on the finish. Day 2 (recapped and kept in fridge), noticed and underlying orange/citrus note that let to a dry finish. The aroma also showed more chocolate character.

Much better than it has any right to be at 4.5%. Lots of lovely flinty chocolate flavours with a really nice dry roast bitter finish. Just a really well made beer by the best brewer in Japan. TimE (5953) - Tokyo, JAPAN - OCT 13, 2010
Draft at Bulldog. For some reason there was no head and little carbonation in the beer. Bull is usually good with this, but I guess this was an exception. Lots of dark fruit and roasted character. Reasonably well balanced. Hardly mind blowing, but enjoyable enough, nonetheless. KyotoLefty (10311) - Kyoto, JAPAN - SEP 17, 2010
Draught at Tadg’s. Pretty, glowing black with a nice tan head. Lightly roasted aroma with coffee; dry and slightly creamy. Smooth, soft malts, nicely roasted, with coffee and dark chocolate in the mouth. Creamy, with some berries. Light body, but smooth and full. Nice fruity, berry-like edge. A good dry stout, not particularly special, but smooth and tasty.
