Bottl shared in Hackney - many thanks to TimE for the trade. Pours deep brown with a small, creamy beige head. Nice aroma, some burnt wood, honey, butterscotch, toffee. Medium to heavy sweet flavour, some chewy toffee, more brown bread, berries, low bitterness. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, lightly warming, more dried berries, earth, toffee. Nice depth, pretty good balance. Very good.

Pours cloudy amber with low white head. Aroma of toffee, booze, medicinal. Taste is boozy, bitter, mellow sweet finish. Light to medium bodied and smooth carbonation.

Bottle thanks to TimE. Pours a dark brown color with a medium brown head. A big fruity vinous nose. The flavor is sweet banana, anise, wood, brown sugar. Quite German. Big sweet BA beer. A bit like a HOTD

Clear reddish brown beer, small irregular creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: sweet, lots of dried fruits, caramel, pretty yeasty, alcohol, lots of banana. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: banana, sweet, bit sugary, malty, caramel, yeast. Aftertaste: soft bitterness, bit sourish, sweet and sugary, some alcohol, yeast, bit spicy.

Medium dark brown color. Funky sweet nose with brownies, aniseed and whiskey, but just ever so slight. The mouth is rounded, full bodied, but a lot of parts going on, with roasted malt, brownies, aniseed, whiskey, moderately strong yeasty character. Light burn on the tongue from alcohol. Warming finish with lots of a dry funky saison yeast, aniseed and whiskey. Odd combo, but I liked it

Thanks TimE for the bottle! Poured into a pilsner showing coffee brown with half a finger of quickly dissipating latte colored foam.

The nose shows roasted malts with big bourbon barrel notes of vanilla, charred wood, and light smoke. Upon warming up the Belgian yeast notes become much more apparent.

The palate is full bodied and fully carbonated. Immediately shows flavors of vanilla and roasted coffee-like malt. Alcoholic spice becomes much more apparent on mid-palate with the lightly sweet Belgian yeast influence appearing. The finish shows a big bitterness of bourbon. Big and complex but the flavors do not work terribly well together. For a dark saison, this drinks much closer to a fresh quad.

Bottle courtesy of TimE, thanks! 08/14/2016. Dark brown cola pour, thin light beige head. Nose has chocolate, cherries, berries, sweet spice, barrel has lent an almost vinous character, rich fruity finish. Taste is darker, with chocolate and light spicy roast, nice whisky notes rounding into fruity finish as with the nose. Medium body, carries the flavor well. Enjoyable.

Big bodied for the style and even ABV. Super sticky and sweet, very Strong aled, compared to the original Black Saison. As it warms it takes on a healthy, stewed fuit and whisky note. Solid beer.

pictoman (1231) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 25, 2016
Poured from 330mL bottle (16.7 date stamped). Dark brown with beige head. Dominant chocolate and belgian yeast, some mild cherry and whiskey, alcohol comes through at the end.

Tap at Yellow Ape. Rich dark brown, mahogany highlights, creamy light tan head. Whisky notes at first, dark berries, Belgian yeast, anise. Deep flavour of molasses, soy, whisky, but balanced out by a berry tinge and the yeast which lends spice. Slightly fizzy up front, but a nice long drawn out feel, not too full, lingering warmth. Loved it.
