Shiga Kogen Pale Ale 5.5% A slightly opaque orange gold with a fairly thick off-white head. The aroma is a hop bouquet that features pine and very light citrus. The taste is bitter, ascerbic pine, some malt sweetness and layers of pine. A classic style APA but a little too bitter for me. I probably loved it the first time I tried it a decade or so ago... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Golden, hazy, small to average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate, malty and dryish - lightly sweetish aroma, faint caramel, light tropical fruitiness, some citrus - light grapefruit hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and dryish - lightly sweetish flavor, faint caramel, light tropical fruitiness and some citrus - light grapefruit hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and dryish, light tropical fruitiness, some citrus - light grapefruit hoppyness. Nice fruity and hoppy APA - not too swetet/not too much caramel.

Bottle at Takumi. Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy straw colour with a frothy white head. The aroma is malt, some light tropical fruit, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a crisp, dry, light resin, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

330 ml bottle, Pour a hazy golden honeyed hue, with a good head of white froth. Aroma is all hops, mainly flora, some resin, and some citrus notes as well.Taste is a standard pale ale, sweetish notes, but very much pine and resin tastes, with some grapefruit, and intense going in to the lingering finish. Carbonation is average over a relatively light body.

Can from Carrefour Beitou. Exp 02/17. Very attractive pour - hazy amber with very slowly settling dense white head. Nose is pleasantly fruity and just a bit hop forward with strawberry and flowers. Texture is really nicely tuned- great smooth but substantial mouthfeel. Flavor is excellent, mildly sweet toffee malt at the outset, quickly overtaken by clean citrus hop resins, and finishes with a memorable mild bitterness and lingering hop resin flavor. Wow - really good - my first pale ale from Japan, this is outstanding.

American Pale Ale? Alright then. I wouldn’t have guessed by the flavour, although there is a razornably sharp grassiness somewhere there in the back, behind the fruits and the resin. Nice beer, certainly a great choice if you are in a supermarket in the Nagano Area. Colour is pale copper, well, AMBER. Aroma is fruits and resins, especially of a freshly cut Christmas tree. Palate is not as sticky, but still, with a decent medium body.
