2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a rich amber. Flavor is of caramel malt . Not too exciting though. Don’t have much to say. Have another? Yeah I can dig it.
Good stuff. Dark malt, caramel and burnt sugar. Dark brown with a medium weight. BeerRenter76 (1037) - Texas, USA - MAY 9, 2017
Originally rated on 1/14/09. This wasnt too bad, but I expected a little more for a 100th anniversary brew. It poured a deep amber body with a thin cap, not much lace too speak of. Aroma was of toasted malts and a slight metallic twinge. Flavor was similar with a little sweetness and caramel. Overall it wasnt bad but I probably wouldnt try it again. tysongillmore (362) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - NOV 21, 2015
I didn't take any extra notes when I tried this beer for the first time but I'm gonna try it again and update my comments.

"look is typical for a DB, maybe a touch lite. Aroma is pleasant malty sweetness, if also a bit light. flavor and feel are good enough as well. didn;t stand out enough to be sure it was a DB and not just any dark german lager, or in other words, a little lite. Sensing a theme here? A totally quafable beer thaT DOES NOTHING TO STAND OUT, GOOD OR BAD."

Rated on 6-10-2009 (Bottle) This beer forms a medium sized very fizzy tan head with a short retention, transparent amber body, virtually no lacing, and fast rising carbonation. The Aroma is caramel, bready malts, herbal and grassy hops, and hints of fruit. The Taste is sweet, caramel malts, hint of fruit, and has a short dry finish. The Palate is tingly, watery and thin. This beer is light bodied. Overall, this beer is easy to drink due to the thinness of the texture. For the style, this beer did not fully fit the bill.

Bottle:   Muddy caramel, moderate frothy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Nose of biscuity bread, soft whole
wheat, minor caramel.   Quite a bit of caramel and toffee on the tongue.   Also some biscuity notes.   Body and
mouthfeel are moderate.   Finishes rather easy, malty, some caramel, and a bit of biscuit mealiness.   For a
Doppelbock its pretty tame, no dark pitted fruit or heavy breadiness.   Its not bad, but just seems a little weak,
despite being flavorful in other ways. ads135 (5031) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - DEC 4, 2012
A slightly less than average doppelbock. Dark brown in appearance, average head. Lacks the syrupy mouthfeel of better varieties, brown sugar is understated and malty. oddaroma (145) - Texas, USA - JUL 3, 2012
Dark with plenty of carbonation without feeling fizzy. Aroma is not a good indicator for this brew. Flavor is dark caramel and chocolatey. Excellent after dinner on cold evening beer. The finish left me craving another and another. I should have stocked up when I had the chance. Onenote81 (1002) - Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA - MAY 1, 2012
Originally reviewed: 8/7/09. Poured this bottle into my pilsner glass. Pours a ruby-tinted tawny brown. Good-sized off-white head on top. Pretty good retention, but little lacing. Smells like caramel, bread, and hints of butterscotch.
The mouth is a little thin and slick. Carbonation level seems to be on the low side. Kind of weak. The flavor is pretty average. Plenty of caramel sweetness and bready malts are there, but it’s just not that bold. I think the drinkability level is pretty high for this beer. As it is not offensive in any way, I could see myself having a few of these at a time. I enjoyed this much more than the regular Bock from these guys.

Shiner’s best beer but that is not saying a lot. I can’t be too hard on them since shiner bock is what got me into beer tasting
