2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Chocolate caramel malt aroma. Dark brown with moderate head. Sweet light chocolate malt flavor. Not bad - pretty light though.
Sampled from a 12 oz bottle at The County Line barbecue restaurant in San Antonio. Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Not much aroma. Taste is thin, dominated by caramel, with a slight hint of roasted malts. Not much hop flavour, and only a little bitterness at the end. A watery and forgettable beer, and really nothing like as good as the Bohemian originals. Larry_Duffman (568) - - NOV 19, 2016
UPDATED: NOV 20, 2016 I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. The aroma is faint caramel. The taste is caramel, hay, and maybe a very small hint of roastiness. It’s pretty watery. It’s drinkable but borders on bland. beer_rookie (610) - Arkansas, USA - OCT 21, 2016
Pours a dark red color. Light shines through, but barely. Has about one finger beige head, that is very short lived. When it goes away looks like cola. No retention, no lacing.Cajun (539) - Lafayette, Louisiana, USA - AUG 13, 2016
Aroma is maybe a touch of coffee. Light caramel. Really, that’s about it. Very bland, very much nothing.
Taste is light roasted malts. Light coffee. Light caramel. Pretty sweet overall. Very watery.
Mouthfeel is light bodied. Smooth. Watery. Not bitter. Easy drinking, sessionable.
Overall, it’s okay, but only okay. It’s not scary or anything. Ordinarily I’d be disappointed, but it’s Shiner, so I don’t expect much. I started the review much lower, but it has improved as it warms. A great introductory beer to a new style. A mediocre beer overall. I would recommend this only if one were afraid of darker beers. But for myself, I see no reason to buy it again.
Bottle - Pours black, beige head. Refrigeration taste... along with scorched pancakes. Very mild. Meh. rdixon77 (2921) - Georgia, USA - JUL 17, 2016
From mix six. Dark, toasty malts. Some caramel. Tad thin. Wasn't as horrible as some shiner, but nothing special.

Bought at a market place.
Pours dark with a tan head.
Smells of licorice and a tad earth and maybe a hint of smoke.
tastes of licorice and some dark chocolate.
Palate was a tad watery.
Overall? This is pretty much a staple at the local Shiner Texas brewery, simply better than a Budweiser. CrimsonFox (8) - Harrison township, Michigan, USA - FEB 20, 2016 does not count
It’s just not a decent Black Lager. The taste is far too light. It’s got a decent head but, it has no complexity. The taste quickly fades from the tounge and the beer is very watery tasting. euniceradio (554) - Worthington, Minnesota, USA - FEB 13, 2016
12oz bottle to tulip. Pours black/ruby red, cream ring head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, oatmeal. Taste of same with roasted malt backbone. Light body, way too much carb.
