A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

Been drinking this for a long time and never actually got around to putting in a review. Probably would have rated this higher had I not more of the premium black lagers. Poured form bottle into a pint glass. Pours a very dark brown with an initial thin light brown head that fades to almost nothing. Aroma isnt strong but smells a little sweet with some roastiness. Taste is a little sweet upfront (much like Shiner Bock) and has a slight roasted flavor. Light on flavor compared to other black lagers. Slight lingering roasted flavors. Average carbonation that leaves the palate cleanly. Very drinkable, especially for a black lager. Not much to talk about but would be a very good beer to transition people in to more different craft beers, especially if they are familiar with Shiner Bock.

Sampled from a 12 oz bottle at The County Line barbecue restaurant in San Antonio. Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Not much aroma. Taste is thin, dominated by caramel, with a slight hint of roasted malts. Not much hop flavour, and only a little bitterness at the end. A watery and forgettable beer, and really nothing like as good as the Bohemian originals.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2016 I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. It pours dark brown with a quickly dissipating tan head. The aroma is faint caramel. The taste is caramel, hay, and maybe a very small hint of roastiness. Its pretty watery. Its drinkable but borders on bland.

Pours a dark red color. Light shines through, but barely. Has about one finger beige head, that is very short lived. When it goes away looks like cola. No retention, no lacing.

Aroma is maybe a touch of coffee. Light caramel. Really, thats about it. Very bland, very much nothing.

Taste is light roasted malts. Light coffee. Light caramel. Pretty sweet overall. Very watery.

Mouthfeel is light bodied. Smooth. Watery. Not bitter. Easy drinking, sessionable.

Overall, its okay, but only okay. Its not scary or anything. Ordinarily Id be disappointed, but its Shiner, so I dont expect much. I started the review much lower, but it has improved as it warms. A great introductory beer to a new style. A mediocre beer overall. I would recommend this only if one were afraid of darker beers. But for myself, I see no reason to buy it again.

From mix six. Dark, toasty malts. Some caramel. Tad thin. Wasn't as horrible as some shiner, but nothing special.

Bought at a market place. Pours dark with a tan head. Smells of licorice and a tad earth and maybe a hint of smoke. tastes of licorice and some dark chocolate. Palate was a tad watery. Overall? This is pretty much a staple at the local Shiner Texas brewery, simply better than a Budweiser.

Its just not a decent Black Lager. The taste is far too light. Its got a decent head but, it has no complexity. The taste quickly fades from the tounge and the beer is very watery tasting.

12oz bottle to tulip. Pours black/ruby red, cream ring head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice, oatmeal. Taste of same with roasted malt backbone. Light body, way too much carb.
