Another mediocre/disappointing Shiner beer... not a very spectacular pour, and there is this very strange almost latex taste to it. Yuck. It is a sin to call this even Bavarian style. ben1270 (4) - Austin, Texas, USA - JAN 27, 2008 does not count
A good addition to the Shiner collection here. Golden honey pour with a good unique taste. thehinge (297) - Nederland, Colorado, USA - JAN 23, 2008
Grassy aroma. Honey colored pour. Nothing special going on tastewise. Slightly sour malts on the front end. Just a hint of hops in the finish. Cletus (6368) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 19, 2008
Bottle courtesy of soonah. Pours copper with a white head. Smells maly and vegetal with some tea like qualities. Tastes of sweet malt with touches of pepper and spice. Average. NoiZe (2394) - Zeist, NETHERLANDS - JAN 16, 2008
Pretty much like the others say: not that bad, but kinda dull.

Too much to add, too little to say :)
12oz bottle; Aroma of bread and some fruit in the mix. Gold body with big white head. Flavor was alright mosly bitter hop but the fruit would show up now and then. Good brew could drink this while playing cards at family getogethers. GiddyBoy (121) - USA - JAN 6, 2008
A good strong outing from the ever satisfying Shiner Brewery. This is a lot stronger and smokier than their Bock and other options. Very little head in the bottle version. It is good, but a bit below par compared to some other dark lagers. It is definitely worth a drink if you are in TX anytime soon, as are all Shiner brews. reggiekoko (10) - saint augustine, Florida, USA - DEC 30, 2007
Purchased this beer at the local HEB store while visiting relatives in TX.
Had a nice reddish-copper hue with a short lingering head with very little lacing.
My first sip revealed a smooth malty flavor followed by some perky hops.
98 reminded me very much of Yuengling Traditional American Lager -- my steady brew -- except that it has a stronger aftertaste.
Shiner 98 is a terrific rendition of this beer style and I would certainly drink it again upon my return to TX. Nekronos (4213) - Xalapa, MEXICO - DEC 26, 2007
NIce in flavour but it was like a hazel nut one, maybe as a light version of a New Castle one. travita (5008) - Dallas, Texas, USA - DEC 18, 2007
Amber colored and clear, quickly disappearing head. Rye and some hops in the smell. Tastes almost like a saison.
