A few centuries ago, during the cold winter months, farmhands in Europe brewed a seasonal provision Farmhouse Ale to be enjoyed once spring rolled around. In the farmlands of Shiner, TX that tradition lives on. Which is why our tribute to this style uses Golding, Sterling and Meridian hops for a sweet yet lightly spiced flavor. Our incredibly refreshing farmhouse ale bears the name of the farm to market road just to the south of where our brewery has proudly stood for over 100 years.

Tap at Mellow Mushroom - Johnson City. Pours clear gold with a medium, creamy white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is banana, cloves, wheat malt, pear and apple esters with black pepper and earthy hops. Flavor is malt forward with spices, light hops and bitterness, fruity esters and a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation.

Got a bottle from a friend who is into Shiner. Light amber color is crystal clear, but really indicative of "farmhouse". Rocky white foam laces somewhat. Faint fruity aroma, maybe strawberries. Balanced flavor, somewhat sweet to me. Kind of gets closer to Hefeweizen. Finishes smooth. Decent brew to drink but, in my opinion, this is not "farmhouse".

I bought this more out of curiosity as anything else. Shiner making a farmhouse ale? It appears to be a Spring seasonal that is out early (or very late). Bottle with twist-off cap. Its filtered, but has a definite Belgian yeast flavor. Slightly citrus and tangy, but generally too light. I dont like the aftertaste. I appreciate the effort.

Bomber pours bright yellow and clear-not a good sign for a farmhouse style. Lots of carbonation and a thick fluffy white head. Nose is yeasty, some funk, and a little citrus. Taste is the same but with very mild flavoring. This one dies off almost before you swallow it. Not real good.

Malty, some hints of citrus and spice, then a thin and watery finish. A bit of nuts and toast. Dies off far too fast.

A very nice little Saison from Shiner, Texas. Pretty soon, I hope, this style will be made standard by all breweries across the United States.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a thin white head that lasts. Taste is of fruit, hops, grass, citrus and some spice. Similar aroma. Has a decent body with a slight dry finish. A nice and unique beer.

12 oz bottle The ale pours a light amber yet cloudy. The white head was small with some lacing The aroma was of sweet bread and spice. There were light notes of pale malt, banana and ripe tropical fruit. The light body ale had soft carbonation. This ale tastes like a wheat beer. This is not my type of ale. The finish ended with sweetness and watery.
