COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.

Enjoyed trying this beer from the Shiner Family Reunion pack. Its not my favorite one out of all the Shiners but I think that it goes great with grilling and doesnt have to be ice cold to drink.

UPDATED: MAY 23, 2012 Nothing special. I started out thinking what a great bargain the Shiner Family Reunion 12-pack was at $9. But having tasted 4 out of the 6 beers included and being overwhelmingly disappointed with each, Im rethinking my bargain. This was as lackluster as all the others. As a matter of fact, besides the hefeweizen which at least tasted different, all their beers taste virtually the same. Mediocrity would be the one word I use to describe my Shiner experience so far. They are all drinkable and go down easy, but there is no "there" there.

Was a little concerned at first as it smelled of hops, and the dry aged hops note on the bottle wasnt helping. Im not a hop fan, but this one is not as strong on hops as I thought it may be. In fact its mild in all flavors. Not bad, but not a whole lot going on.

Not much to this. Little taste little aromas. The color is pretty good though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Really didnt have much taste at all, very thin. Slight roasted, finishes clean and no real issue there, but just not much to taste.

12oz bottle. Pours a yellowish amber color with minimal white head. Aroma very faint. A little bit sweet and changing to bitter. Slightly creamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish. Not bad.

Had this on a hot spring TX day out of the mixed pack and maybe it just caught me at the right time bc I actually enjoyed it. Light malt aroma. Golden in colo with slight white head. Clean tasting lager (light bready sweetness), but not too complex.

Delicious creamy lager. Wish I could get a full 6pk of these and not just 1 in a family pk.

Tasted bottle from Shiner Family Reunion mix-pack into shaker glass. It poured a predictable golden color with weak white foam. Cut-grass, mild malts, almost non-existent hops, some vague adjunct sweetness, and mild pepper phenols from yeast, yet pretty tasteless overall. Not skunky nor offensive, at least. A totally average light-bodied lager, perhaps somewhat pilsener-like, but much less nuanced than classic German examples. Thin, watery, and a bit metallic like most Shiner beers, sadly. This is a brewery I always want to love, despite my unsentimental tastebuds.
