Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.

orangeish golden colour with a small frothy white head. Aroma is definately on the malty side with carmel notes. Flavours of corn, caramel and soft hops. A pretty decent lager all around.

Shiner Kosmos is an orange beer with aroma that is very hoppy, as far as lagers go. The hops are rather herbal. The malty aroma comes out in sipping. Its a rather subtle beer, but its alright.

12 oz bottle from Shiner Variety Pack. Pours a nice clear golden color, minimal lacing. Aroma is yeasty and bready like a typical lager but with a hoppy floral accent. Not as skunky as many lagers. Some toastiness as well. Taste is a good mix between sweet malty and bitter but really nothing too overpowering. Palate is smooth, slightly bitter aftertaste. I like it better than the traditional Shiner Bock, not a bad beer.

Wenig bitteres Finish. 7/8/8/7/8/8

12 oz from a mixed 6 purchased at Spirits Brick. This beer poured a nice clear deep copper/bronze body under a bubbly white head. Aroma and flavor are not offensive they are just plain boring. Slight notes of grain and grass. Body screams macro with a mostly watery feel and stingy bubbly carboantion. NJ already has Yuengling Premium Lager not quite sure why we need this to?

I have a friend from Texas who cherishes this beer with an almost cult fervor - apparently he isnt alone. My only question is... why? I never really liked their Bock. Its OK. A step up from Buttwiper, maybe. The other day I picked up their "Sampler Pack", thinking Id give their other offerings a try. I was actually surprised to find that every one of them basically tasted the same. There was no variety, only subtle shades of blech. I wont say these guys dont know how to make beer. They just dont know how to make very good beer. Must be a Texas thing...

12 oz. bottle from Tmoney99. Pours a clear golden color with a medium whitish head. The aroma has some grainy, bready malt with a surprising amount of spicy grassy hops. Very little from the nose makes it into the flavor. This is a fairly clean straight forward lager. Nothing really bad here; it is what it is.

Pours clear pale orange with a small white head. Smells like an exceptionally hopped lager; has that "typical" beer smell. Tastes like more bitter "typical" lager; there really is nothing special about this. Medium-bodied with a thin, slick texture and prickly mouth-carbonation; Shiner Kosmos Reserve finishes with a bitter astringency that makes one want to drink something that is not this.

Appearance: Pours a crystal clear, bronze-colored head with a rather brief, white head. Smell: A little breadiness to the nose with some sweetish hints to it, more so than come across in the taste. Vague spicy, grassy hop notes, less so than deliver in the taste. Taste: Lightly grainy, faintly bready soda cracker-like maltiness with a small, very temporary taste of sweet caramel. Infinitesimal hint of white grape. A drop of lemon juice. Though this beer is apparently "hop-jacked", youll get no more than a meager spiciness, a sparse grassiness, and some supporting bitterness. Quite clean and crisp at the finish. Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation. Light on the tongue, but not quite watery. Overall: Lets be honest for a change, it is Shiner, so roll in with simple low expectations, and youll be treated to simple, clean lager with a bit of bitterness to it.
