“Kosmos Spoetzl knew how to brew great beer. Born in Bavaria, Kosmos’ mastery of German brewing carried him as far as Egypt before he found his way to the small Texas town of Shiner. Our proud brewery still carries his name and commitment to excellence in brewing. This full-flavored, hop-jacked lager is every bit as unique as the man himself and our way of saluting the brewmaster who started it all.”

12oz bottle into a pint glass. An interesting somewhat hopped up addition by Shiner. One of their better beers, but still doesn’t blow me away.

Ibrew2or3 (8808) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 30, 2009
Pours brilliantly clear deep gold with weak white head. The mild aroma has notes of sweetness and fruity esters and maybe a touch of biscuit. The taste is sort of yuck with sweet slick malts, oddly thin body, graininess and floral hops. It ends with a touch of grainy malts and faint spicy hops. These faint flavors really don’t go well together here.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2010 what an absolute insult to Kosmos, but seeing as the Spoetzl family yet this get out to the public, fuck ’em.. Please Lord, if you are there, please strike down Spoetzl brewery into dust, and forever blank the worlds mind of this crap they call beer, from Bock to Leight to this garbage.. words aren’t enough, pure shit .. . pours a tawny tan, with almost no head after a minute .. . ever smelled a metal malt extract can that expired in 1994, then you know what this smells off.. . does have a decent mouth, as in it doesn’t linger too long, but horribly muddled with an odd metallic backbone bitterness, and a wrong expired maple syrup flavour, maybe some moldy hops ..maybe...

.. rerate: its drinkable, but still..

12 oz bottle. Poured a clear copper/bronze color with a white head. Aroma was bready and sweet malts,. flavor was a bit grainy, with notes of lemon, citrus. Pretty much a forgettable beer, but very enjoyable. Lagered, typical, quite drinkable if it was around, but may as well get their standards.

PorterPounder (8226) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - DEC 24, 2012
Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - 12 oz bottle - part of their "Family Reunion" six pack. Pours a medium copper, thin white head. Pretty much a neutral aroma, brief hints of cardboard. Flavor has some brief caramel accents, a hint of spent grain, just a trace of nuttiness. Mouthfeel is thick enough for the style. Decent, just slightly bland.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8069) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 14, 2017
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark bronze color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet perfume, grass, and phenol. The flavor was sourish with hints of caramel, bread, perfume and grass. Medium length finish. Medium body. Not good.

BMan1113VR (7930) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAR 17, 2009
Pours with no head over a very light cardboard hued body. Aroma of cereal, light german hops, a bit of dust and a touch of DMS (cooked corn). Taste is a bit of dirt or soil, metallic copper and DMS. Bone dry mouthfeel and a metallic finish. Kosmos should be rolling in his grave knowing this was named after him.
