Spring has sprung at the little brewery in Shiner, TX (pop. 2,070). And with it, our newest brew, Shiner Dortmunder-Style Spring Ale. The Old World classic pours deep gold in color, with a white head and smooth flavor. Its medium hop bitterness and hints of grain, honey and floral hops will refresh you like a sun-drenched nap on a lush green lawn.

Reviewed 1/5/2013. 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a golden honey color with great clarity. The head is a decent looking one finger offwhite shade. Nice texture and lacing. S: Earthy minerals and a tiny hint of citrus. Certainly not an evocative aroma - but to be fair, the bottle is far older than it should be. T: There’s a lot of fruit punch-like sweetness not just on the opening flavors, but in general. Maybe it’s just the way the earthy hops interact with the caramel malts, but this is a dead ringer for Hawaiian Punch flavor-wise. I’m noticing a whiff of staleness in the malts/hops; expected given its age. M: Light and crisp, but perhaps a bit too sweet on the palate. A bit of finishing dryness would go a long way to cleaning up the mouthfeel some, but the syrupy profile does conceal the potent carbonation somewhat. O: Eh, it could have been worse given the circumstances (a 10 month old 6 pack of a not-so-highly-rated beer), so I’ll give it benefit of the doubt. Still a plain and uninspired offering.

Pours a nice golden yellow color with a minimal fizzy white head. Aromas of grains, straw, hops, and a hint of fruit. Flavor is a nice crisp pilsner taste. Starts grainy with touches of pepper and fruit and finishes with a mellow hop.

12 oz bottle from backlog notes. Pours a clear golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted malts, grass, light caramel, general lager bland character, not to be repeated.

Rated based on notes taken 3 Apr 2012 -- Drank on a trek to Pueblo, CO. This was a pretty good beer. Easy drinker, not too much detracting.

Pours a golden color with an off white head. The aroma is mainly caramel, malts, and some floral hops. The taste is more of the same

slowrunner77 (12037) - Reno, Nevada, USA - OCT 2, 2014
pours a dark yellow with generous head. aroma a touch fruity with some floral hops and a bit of corn. unfortunately, the flavor is more one-dimensional and very bland (more corn, kit malts) though it does have a hop bite at the end. feel is prickly. overall, ok for the style, so i’m not sure it belongs so low as to be in the 3rd percentile in style, but why this style and this beer for your winter seasonal? well, i don’t really want to kill it, so maybe it does belong down there. and yes, great lakes is sooooo much better for roughly the same price."

Bottle. Clear gold in color with a medium head. Aroma is just like a traditional American lager. Taste is well balanced, just not very good. TNT.
