A dark, full bodied beer, with overtones of coffee and roasted barley, that is slightly sweet, with just enough hops to balance out the full malt flavor.

12oz bottle 5/27/09 (Purchased at Brewpub)-Pours a lighter black with a small loose tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Taste of the same with the chocolate and a bitterness come across on the back end. This medium bodied brew is not bad and I was quite surprised.

Bottle, thanks to Skyview. Black color with a medium head. Very light roasted barley aroma. Dry malt taste. Light coffee and cocoa flavors. A bit metallic. Overall decent.

Had this one bottled, thanks Dad! Thick, coal black pour with a thin, rapidly dissipating light brown head, a good, nutty and malty nose, and a flavor of roasted almonds, sweet coffee, and chocolate malts. Smooth and slightly bitter finish. Not bad!

Draft at the brewpub. Varied aroma of chocolate, nuts, vanilla, and a hint of butter. Poured a dark brown color with orange highlights. The head was tan. Medium bodied and dry. The flavor was roastier than I had expected based on the nose and there was a nice nutty note. Pretty good beer.

Hmm....I see that there’s a bit of disagreement about this brew. When I sat down at this overwrought pretentious tourist trap, I wasn’t expecting much. The first few sips of this dark brown bordering on black porter--served in a plastic cup for Christ’s sake--didn’t immediately dispel my misgivings. But as I sipped through the brew the lightly sweetened chocolate set against the coffee and thick oaty/nutty base against the mild lactose sweetness grew on me.

Thanks Mullman for sharing. Very strange, odd taste and mouthfeel. Couldn’t get past the acidity and alcaseltzer to get any flavor. A shipwreck for sure for me.

kyzr (1593) - Montana, USA - JAN 30, 2008
Bottle thanks to skyview. Dark pour with brown head. Roasted, nutty nose. Flavor is roasted, caramel malt, with a touch of molasses. Very carbinateed. Very light body for the style. Rather straight forward, clean finish.

12oz bottle shared by mullman. Pours with a black and a tan head. The beer is roast, caramel, light diacetyl, and light infection, Nice way to cover the not-to-dos in beer. Has that infection fizzy mouthfeel.

JPDIPSO (6262) - Wauwatosa, USA - NOV 23, 2007
Near black with a lid of light tan/khaki bubbles. Hints of dark caramel, molasses and roasted malts. Quite water in feel. Thin flavors as well. Flavors of lightly burnt toast and touch of cocoa.
