Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of roasted malt, bakers cocoa and light coffee. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of roasted malt, bakers cocoa and light earthiness with a smooth dry lingering cocoa finish. crossovert (13908) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 8, 2011
I was surprised by this one, by far the best brew in this brewery’s lineup. It has a roasty aroma, chocolate in the flavor. It is a bit smoother and waterier in mouthfeel for the style, but it is extremely drinkable. BVery (11361) - Plymouth, Minnesota, USA - OCT 27, 2013
Bottle. Deep chestnut pour with a small white head. Nice roasty and sweet toffee aroma. Similar taste. Medium bodied. This is pretty solid, much better than I was anticipating based on the average ratings. hopscotch (11236) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - OCT 17, 2011
Bottle… Pours black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Good retention. Nice vanilla and mocha nose. Medium to full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Very roasty and well hopped–burnt and moderately bitter. A little cardboardy, but not enough to be annoying. Finishes up much the same – scorched and mildly bitter with a hint of cardboard. Nice effort. Hey, thanks Dad! Strykzone (7657) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - SEP 17, 2016
Sampled at Doran’s. Dark brrown with some amber. A beige head. Earthy aroma that has grain and soft coffee. A more robust flavor of coffee, earth, and grains. Moderate bitter bite is grains. Floral and citrus hop notes. Decent stuff.

On tap 9/1/08: Pours a semi-transparent dark mahogany with a fully-lacing tan head. Aroma of semi-sweet dark toasty caramel malts with a touch of dark chocolate. Body starts with good fullness and toasty dark caramel maltiness with some chocolatey bittersweetness and hop balance before the smooth finish. A pretty decent porter. Deep brown pour with a light tan head. Aroma had some roasted coffee and caramel, but was rather subdued. Medium-bodied and slightly bitter toward the back of the palate. Flavor started out with bitter coffee.. followed by some chocolate and caramel malts (solidly malty all around). Light hops and coffee provided the finish. Tasty porter, but nothing exceptional. 12 oz bottle courtesy of my girlfriend’s brother’s trip to the brewery. Pours a rich dark brown, opaque, big coca cola hued head stays moderately large, laces. Aromas are nice chocolate, lighter coffee grounds, a touch of sweet cream nestled between moderate roasted malts. Initial rocks a too thin body, light creamy chocolate, coffee roast, roasted malts of decent flavor, and a bit of a vegetal finish nestled into the sweet and roast balance towards the finish. Lighter fare, touch vegetal and butterscotchy. I had high hopes for this on the aroma, but the beer itself fell short. Cheers. nuplastikk (6452) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 8, 2010
12oz bottle. Opaque black color with a frothy beige head that fades down to a thin oily layer after a few minutes. Roasty aroma. This is a great Porter. Some vanilla tones, big bold chocolate, but all beneath a smooth, fluffy malt body. Wow, really nails the style. Porter freaks should seek this one out. Bold, almost approaching Stout.
