4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Earthy aroma with hints of chocolate, a little coffee, and some citrus hops (really nice aroma), pours black, frothy, tan foam head with bubbles, thins out pretty fast, a mixture of light sweetness and bitterness that finishes bitter, average carbonation, thick and full bodied with what I now can see is a sticky finish (I’m new at this). Lacing I have never tried a black IPA and I am finding this a delicious way to root for Denver to beat Tom Brady and company. A really nice beer all around.
Bottled 0,35L. Dark brown/amber color, much dirty and hazy aspect with good bubbly and long creamy head duration. Soft aged graps and cellar notes, wheat and yeast aroma. Little sweetish and warmy mouth, good and equilibrate alcoholic palate with an excessive sweetish final. ScoWRee (422) - Perkiomen, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 23, 2017
Pours a deep dark brown, almost black. A nice thick tan foamy head. Aroma of cocoa. Taste is hoppy with a hint of coffee/cocoa. very interesting brew.... DrNosha (2347) - Württemberg, Germany, GERMANY - APR 8, 2017
12oz Flasche. Dunkel braunes fast schwarzes Bier. Beständiger beiger Schaum. Röstmalz und Kaffe Aroma. Bitterer Röstmalz Antrunk. Viele Bitterstoffe. Kafee und Bitterschokolade. Wenig Hopfen. Eher ein Stout. KevinReddirt (166) - Midland, Texas, USA - MAR 29, 2017
Purchased with eleven brown bottled friends through a beer club. This might be the best of the four selections I got with this delivery. Faint praise. Poured into a handled beer glass it delivers an almost pure black liquid with a small head of beige bubbles that swiftly departs. It definitely smells resiny and earthy. A drink gives something better, a hop push, grass and something malty in the background. A decent bitter close. Certainly a finisher but not to be pursued again. jimhilt (2610) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 11, 2017
Pours a three finger khaki head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Black color no highlights. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Pine & citrus nose. Flavor follows pine, some citrus hops with hints of malt. Lingering bitter aftertaste.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a thin white foamy to bubbly head quickly falling off and leaving no lace.
The aroma had a ton of dark roasted malts, some nuttiness. Crisp toast, and then burnt piney bitter hops. Mild citrus. English sort of earthy yeastiness. Slight black licorice.
The flavor tries to blend most of the prior mentioned aromas but leaves out the citrus portion. English yeastiness seems to ping the taste a bit more than expected than other black IPA’s I have had which seems to create a smoother aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. Once again, the bitterness level hitting my tongue seems a bit lower than expected than other black IPA’s.
Overall, interesting black IPA to say the least. First one I ever had with an English ale yeast to it. Not sure if I would have again. I can see why so many people just on this other than it’s brewed by Shipyard. PanMarek (447) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 30, 2016
Pours dark brown with thick beige head that fades quickly. Dark, bitter malt in those with a touch of floral hops. The taste is bitter, coffee malts with some hops at the end. Medium body, light fizz, slightly slick texture. Dry overall -- the malt dominates the hops a little too much. (Winter 2014)

Heavier malt taste that calms but leaves molasses on the palate. Definitely a heavier ale, but still good.

Drank from a pint glass, poured from a twelve ounce bottle. Purchased in Warwick, NY. Pours black, with nice frothy, light brown head. Aromas of chocolate and coffee, mostly dominated by the aroma of Simcoe. Not a very good black IPA.
