July 21, 2010; 12-oz. bottle fr. "Captain’s Collection" sampler 12-pack picked up in Maine. Black pour; thin tan head; light aroma of coffee & molasses. Chocolate/coffee flavor, with a bit of smoke. Bitter, dry finish. Like most malty brews, the flavor improves as it warms up. Overall, a pleasant, sessionable stout -- even if it’s a tad light & uncomplicated. thejon375 (414) - Tampa, Florida, USA - MAR 11, 2009
Good stout, a little weak in flavor, hints of blueberry. Expected more out of shipyard, but overall not a bad stout. Duhast500 (414) - Cumberland, Rhode Island, USA - JAN 2, 2010
Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass.
The color of this beer is complete black with three fingers of brown foamy head. Some slight lacing.
The smell is slightly coffee bean flavor. A little bit of a roasty flavor.
The taste is of roasty malts with a nice dry toffee flavor. It also has a bit of a dark chocolate flavor that is a bit sweet as well.
The feel of this light with a bit of a creamy feel to it.

Bottle. Another one I’m just realizing I haven’t rated before. This is one of my favorite stouts. Pours black with a tan head. This one’s on the lighter side as stouts go. There is some cocoa flavor that comes through and the finish is smooth. BigMilly8 (389) - Wesley Chapel, Florida, USA - FEB 3, 2008
From bottle : Pours a very very dark black color, with one of the biggest heads ive ever seen, that has great lasting power and lacing, it is big, offwhite, and rocky. Nose is very milky, and kind of a spoiled milk, im not enjoying the smell very much. Taste is roasted chocolate malt, and has a pretty good hop bite from beginning to end. Thick bodied, with a nice smooth feeling on the palate. Malty, milky aftertaste. The smell is not good, but thankfully it got a little better from there.

Bottle. Pours a thick brown/black color with a nice tan head. Aromas of coffee, hint of dark chocolate, and maybe a little bit of a cherry edge. Medium to heavily bodied. Nice bitterness infused w/ the malts. A little bit of an edge going down the gullet but overall pretty nice. sigma23 (380) - , Maine, USA - APR 4, 2009
pours dark black with aroma of chocolate and coffee. malt sweetness and coffee upfront and finishes with a note of chocolate. stout when fresh is great but deteriorates with age. drink as fresh as you can for best flavors Teege (375) - Orlando, Florida, USA - JAN 12, 2010
Nitro draft at redlight redlight. Pours a dark, near-black, barely translucent. Fun to watch settle. Good nose with lots of roasted malts and hints of good coffee. Things fall apart a little bit in the flavor. Nice and dry, but something in the taste is a off. While a little bit creamy, the body is much too thin. Almost gets there but misses somewhere along the way. Lizabeth (360) - east falmouth, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 23, 2003
Black with a tan head that left some lacing. Chocolate, raisons, coffee and molasses. Tasty. goz (358) - Chelmsford, Massachusetts, USA - SEP 17, 2003
Super duper deep black, pretty much opaque, large tan head that sticks around for the most part and leaves much lace. Aroma of strongly roasted malt (dark black coffee), very slight floral hop presence in the background. Flavor starts with strong espresso, middle has a mild fruitiness to it, end has small amounts of hops. Medium-full body, very slight carbonation. An extremely tasty, easy drinking stout that is now a staple in my beer fridge.
