Pours a dark golden brown with fluffy head. Aromas of dark malts, hops, and light bourbon. Flavors of sweet malts, hops, and nice bourbon notes.

750ml corked and caged bottle, 2014 edition. Shared with the wife. Served in snifters. Poured an almost black deep claret/burgundy with the smallest of off white head. More of a ring actually. Aromas of caramel and brown sugar on the nose with a hint of bourbon. Sweet flavors of the aforementioned caramel and brown sugar as well as some vanilla and wood tannin. The deeper into the glass you get the more the bourbon shows itself. Although not overpowering. Not a lot of hop bitterness. Full bodied and gut warming. Nice!

zoucrew102 (2104) - - JAN 1, 2016
750ml bottle shared by sevenhokie, 2014 vintage. Rich caramel aroma with notes of dark fruit, bourbon and vanilla. Pours dark brown with a thin light brown head with no retention or lacing. Starts with rich dark fruit flavor with a little bit chocolate and avoid amount of caramel. Finishes smooth with bourbon and vanilla flavors joining in. Best shipyard yet.

A nice bourbon barreled barleywine overall. Pours a deep black with a tan head. Smells of barley, vanilla and bourbon. Taste starts with lots of bourbon and vanilla, with a bit of a vinegar, cola finish. Starts better then it ends. Had on tap at Pacific Coast Brewing.

Bottle #02022. Vintage 2014.Pours dark brown color with reddish highlights and a thin tan head. Aromas of bourbon, caramel, vanilla, oak. Bourbon foward flavor but not too overpowering. Sweet caramel and vanilla flavors with oak. Medium to full body with minimal carbonation. Surprisingly good for a Shipyard beer.

3.2
thornecb (6058) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 20, 2015
Pours deep mahogany into a tulip. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to mottle surface. Dark caramel, soy and dried fruit aromas. Medium bodied with soy and licorice upfront turning to sweet vanilla and caramel before the lasting charred oak finish.

DocLock (11025) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 1, 2015
750 cc bottle. Pours dark blackish with 1-finger tan head. Nose is like a fine cigar, with figgy fruit, blackberry, hops, and prunes. Tastes oaky, earthy, with heavy bourbon, tobacco, hops, cacao, and blackberry. This one is incredible, and the best Shipyard beer I have quaffed to date.
