Draft. Rich amber beer with a dark cream head. Light bourbon aroma with light malt and light butter. Bourbon and rich malt flavor with brown sugar. Medium bodied. Bourbon and brown sugar lingers with rich malt. b3shine (9073) - Indiana, USA - JAN 1, 2013
750 ml bottle to snifter. Looks good; a mostly opaque caramel with off-white lacing. Smells and tastes semi-sweet, tart, and malty. Average on the palate. Good stuff! mikem409 (2029) - bloomfield, Michigan, USA - JAN 1, 2013
bottle thanks dr silverworm. pours brown with frothy head. aroma of malt and slight barrel. taste is mild barrel and lots of malt. some hop crossovert (13730) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 31, 2012
A pretty insipid beer. Rank of alcoholic notes, the bourbon doesn’t mesh with the beer. A disaster brew. thornecb (6021) - Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA - DEC 28, 2012
Pours clear amber into a snifter. Tan head recedes to nothing. Sweet toffee and oak aromas. Hot front to back with bourbon and oak upfront turning to a dusty lasting finish.

Pours a nice copper color with a khaki head. Nose is sweet bourbon, vanilla, and toffee. Hints of chocolate, toasted bread, and some floral hops. Light oak, raisin, and alcohol on the finish. Excellent sweetness to the flavor. Bourbon, vanilla, toffee, chocolate, and caramel. Slightly nutty, some dark fruits, mild alcohol, and very subtle hops. philvil (176) - Massachusetts, USA - NOV 23, 2012
At 13+% alcohol, of course the aroma and flavor are "boozy". But everything is pleasant. Delicious beyond expectations. I know shipyard gets a bad rap, and I’ve always been a big fan of the Export but little else. This is the first barrel-aged offering I’ve tried from them, and it is exceptional. Thanks, Harold, for bringing this one. A double ESB? From Shipyard? Not what I would expect. Nose is cheap whiskey, some light grainy malt, toffee, citrus. Tons of alcohol in the nose. Pour is clear light orange color with a white head. Taste is pretty similar with tons of alcohol, some caramel malt, light citrusy hops, and a touch of bourbon and vanilla. I’m not sure if I had much hype to begin with here. The body was full of bubbles, had a big yellow body matched with a sudsy ol’ head. It smelled like cheap whiskey, almost like rubbing alcohol actually, but it wasn’t too intense among scents of butterscotch, honey and oak. The taste was thin, sort of weak with light hints of raisins, hops, wood and toffee. Alcohol was abundant in the taste as well, finishing hot and sort of heavy. Definitely the best Shipyard brew I’ve had, but they need to work on the barrel-aging program for sure. Ratman197 (15216) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - NOV 13, 2012
On tap at Bistro BA Fest poured a clear amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of bourbon, carmel, toffee, mint, oak, light vanilla and light fruittiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, fruittiness, bourbon, light mint and light oak with a crisp dry lingering minty bourbon finish.
