At 13+% alcohol, of course the aroma and flavor are "boozy". But everything is pleasant. Delicious beyond expectations. I know shipyard gets a bad rap, and I’ve always been a big fan of the Export but little else. This is the first barrel-aged offering I’ve tried from them, and it is exceptional. jimhilt (2620) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 7, 2012
Pours a one finger khaki head that fades quickly to a ring leaving some lace. Cloudy brown color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Bourbon nose. Flavor is bourbon and dark fruit, with a mild alcohol burn. Nice double ESB. Bottle #185, caged and corked 750ml from Madden Beverage Saco, ME. bhensonb (15601) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 11, 2012
Draft at the Bistro West Coast Barrel Aged Beer Festival. Pours very dark orange brown with a large foamy beige head. Aromas of light pitted fruit and dark pitted fruit. Good amount of bourbon/vanilla with fruit for flavor. Quite excellent. Ratman197 (15204) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - NOV 13, 2012

Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel, toffee, fruittiness, bourbon, light mint and light oak with a crisp dry lingering minty bourbon finish. 2013 bottle. Classic bourbon barrel aromas of toasted coconut, oak, vanilla, and bourbon as well as toffee, leather, bacon, shoe polish, roasted grains, and deep malts. Appears a slightly murky brown with a thin white foam rim and heavy lacing. Taste is very smooth with creamy caramel, toffee, oak, malt syrup, honey, and molasses. Mid palate brings pleasant coconut milk, vanilla, liquid yeast, deep malts, toasted bread and hints of chocolate milk. Finishes with definite bourbon burn, liquefied caramel and wood characteristics. Very fine offering. A rating.

Sample pour at The Ale and the Witch. Nose is healthy bourbon, boozy, vanilla, smooth caramel malt. Very nice and intense. Flavor is smooth and sharp, all at once. Bourbon and boozy up front with vanilla and oakiness. Smooth malt character follows through nicely. Little to no lacing at all. Not bad overall. oRos (1675) - sacramento, California, USA - NOV 10, 2012

Great lacing. The flavor increased as it warmed. halfonit (1392) - Fall River, Massachusetts, USA - AUG 26, 2013
Had this on tap in the little hospitality bar at the brewery. Pours a hazy dark red / orange color with an off-white / khaki colored head. Nice lacing. Bourbon, woody vanilla, and roasted barley nose. Flavor is of caramel malts, bourbon, spice, booze, and wood. Bourbon aftertaste, but a bit of a bite right now. Still a little too hot. I can see this aging well.
