At 13+% alcohol, of course the aroma and flavor are "boozy". But everything is pleasant. Delicious beyond expectations. I know shipyard gets a bad rap, and Ive always been a big fan of the Export but little else. This is the first barrel-aged offering Ive tried from them, and it is exceptional.

Pours a medium amber color. Aromas of caramel malt, hops, and a touch of bourbon. Caramel sweetness in the taste with a good bitterness of hops.

Tap at Cask and Vine. Reddish amber color. Paint thinner and vodka aromas mixed with wood tannins and light sugary malt. This is horrible, I didnt finish the 5oz in front of me!

2013 bottle. Classic bourbon barrel aromas of toasted coconut, oak, vanilla, and bourbon as well as toffee, leather, bacon, shoe polish, roasted grains, and deep malts. Appears a slightly murky brown with a thin white foam rim and heavy lacing. Taste is very smooth with creamy caramel, toffee, oak, malt syrup, honey, and molasses. Mid palate brings pleasant coconut milk, vanilla, liquid yeast, deep malts, toasted bread and hints of chocolate milk. Finishes with definite bourbon burn, liquefied caramel and wood characteristics. Very fine offering. A rating.

From the 750 bottle. Malty. Slightly sweet with hints of caramel. Low carbonation. Muddy in color. Bourbon throughout. No ESB here.

Had this on tap in the little hospitality bar at the brewery. Pours a hazy dark red / orange color with an off-white / khaki colored head. Nice lacing. Bourbon, woody vanilla, and roasted barley nose. Flavor is of caramel malts, bourbon, spice, booze, and wood. Bourbon aftertaste, but a bit of a bite right now. Still a little too hot. I can see this aging well.

750 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm 1/1/13. Pours a hazy dark orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, some fruit character, bourbon/whiskey, vanilla and some wood. Seemed to show every bit of the abv and could have benefited from more age. Nice to have tried it though.

750ml bottle, thanks to radarsock. 2012 bottle, #341. Hazy dark red / orange color. Good thin bubbly off-white / khaki head. Lots of dots of lace. Bourbon, woody vanilla nose. Pretty hot in the finish, light bitter. Good caramel malt base, light bitter fruity hops in there, but a lot of bourbon / spicier wood warmth. Tasty bourbon wood hop aftertaste, but a bit of a bite right now. Would have liked to save it for longer, what with the purported "infinite shelf-life", but curiosity prevailed, and New Years seemed like a good occasion for tasting
