Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Chinook and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didnt know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailors rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

bottled - nice amber color. Sweet slightly hoppy aroma. Decent hop flavor but has a lesser quality to it (possibly an old bottle).

355ml twist off (!), cant imagine shipping this beer overseas and using a twist off (let alone shipping ipas in non refrigerated containers [hint hint shelton]).. Semi-hazed amber pour, nice foamy off-white head. The aroma is actually really fresh and nice didnt catch a bottle date but it smells nice, grainy and bready but not overpoweringly so, just a nice well-rounded malt-accentuated hop perfume. Flavor is resiny, some fruit notes, nice bitterness dry, jsut a hint of caramel and toast. Not bad. Must be a super-fresh bottle too. Pairs good with the salted broccoli im eating for some reason.

16oz can. Orange/copper tone, moderate tan head. Earthy, orange rind, grassy smell & taste. Seemed like an English/American hybrid. Full-body and medium- carbonation.

Clear copper colored, moderate strong creamy off white head, nice lacing. Aroma is of caramel malts, some biscuit, fruity and floral hops. Taste is moderate sweet caramel malt, fruity and floral hops, citrus as well, some biscuit in the finish, moderate+ bitterness and a fairly dry finish. Moderate+ bodied and carbonation, oily. Decent, not great. (bottle Pivoteka, Zagreb)

22 oz can: Aroma has got a lot of candy like ho textures with caramel notes poking through. Appearance is an amber and somewhat red with an off white head that lingers around for quite a while. Taste has got a hard candy like hop note with a light malt texture intermingled. Palate has got a lingering buttery malt and hop texture in the after taste. Overall, its alright nothing special. Cheers!

Aroma: resin, pine, fruity, caramel. Appearance: hazy gold, small, white, frothy head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: sweets continue, resin again, caramel, turns quite bitter in the finish. Overall: nice IIPA, could do with some more complexity in the palate. Bottle at GBBF 2015, Kensington Olympia.

Slightly haze burnt orange pour with semi-creamy 2-finger head that remains throughout. Spice hop and pine are there with faint citrus, but definitely some metallic and soapiness. Malts try to help balance everything out, but still pretty bitter. Not horrible, but not very good either.

Bottle at Lukes Lobster Bethesda. Hazy amber body with medium head. Nose is hops, citrus and caramel. Taste hoppy, bitter with sweetness. Light texture. Bitter in the finish.
