COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Shipyard Monkey Fist IPA is the genesis of a new generation of IPA. The traditional elements of classic English IPA have been redefined by American craft beer innovation. Like the image suggests, Monkey Fist is edgy, aggressive, and unique in style. This beer is brilliant copper in color and exploding with Chinook and Cascade hop character but able to maintain a beautiful balance. Monkey Fist holds up to the spiciest foods or is delicious savored just on its own. And, in case you didn’t know, a Monkey Fist is the knot tied at the end of a sailor’s rope to serve as a weight and make it easier to throw. Cheers!

Bottle. Amber beer with a dark cream head. Grapefruit and pine aroma. Dusty and pine flavor with grapefruit. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit rind and pine linger.

[6717-20140903] Can. Honey pine needle sugar aroma. Hazy, orange brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head and some lacing. Bitter sugary corn grains flavour has a long toasted aftertaste. Medium body. Really odd, not favourably so. (4/3/5/3/10) 2.5

Draft. Pours orange with an off white head. Citric and flowery aroma. The flavor has floral and citric hops with sweet malts and toffee. Just a hint of diacetyl, but not bad.

22oz screw-top bottle, thanks to radarsock. Malt-forward hop flavor. Caramel malts, spicier hop, grainy bread. Light over-ripe citrus. Smooth, lighter carbonation, bigger body, with a slight viscosity. Good bitter taste. Hazy darker amber color. Good foamy off-white head, leaves good sheets of lace. Light sweet. Better than expected. Solid English IPA.

Deep amber pour with a nice thick off-white head. Lightly hazed. The aroma is quite resinous. A little bit of pine but mostly woody/earthy hoppiness. Lots of malt character as well with a touch of toffee and some fairly heavy peppery character. Quite aggressively bittered but the aroma is quite faded in this one. Has an iced tea character that I could do without. Meh - scroll past.

bottle from yann, thanks! pours clear golden with a nice white head, little retention, weak lacing. fruitiness, english earthiness, floral and citrus notes, faint lightly toasted malts. average carbonation, light body - weak as in watery, decent herbal-grassy-citrusy finish. meh.

Tap. Pours crystal clear amber, medium creamy beige head, good lacing. Aroma is light line and grapefruit. Flavor is similar, light sweet, medium bitter, pine and grapefruit, touch of caramel backbone. A bit harsh on the end. Basically what american IPAs were fifteen years ago.

8/14/12. 12oz bottle from a random ABC. Sweet floral and earthy hop aroma with a sweet caramel and earthy/floral hop flavor. Mehhh.

22oz bomber pours clear copper with near white head. The aroma has some vague resiny hops, a bit of fruity raisin esteriness and then that house yeast nearly butterscotch note. The house yeast doesn’t work here for me. The taste is similar as I get hops that are vague and bitter and a bit resiny mixed with the house yeast buttered bread and butterscotch. Didn’t not really like this one. The yeast or maybe it is an off note, just doesn’t work.
