Bottle, poured a deep reddish brown with a thick white head. Nice malty aroma with a good hop kick. Kinda reminds me of SN Celebration with a little more of a malty aroma and taste. Crispflavors with an earthy hoppiness. Medium moutfeel and a clean finish. Very nice beer. VAYankee (353) - Virginia, USA - JAN 22, 2012
Clear brownish/red body with a cream colored head. Sweet malty aroma including brown sugar and nuts. This tastes like what I expect from an english ale. More descriptively a toffee, nutty flavor with a mild hoppy finish. spilledpint (352) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - DEC 10, 2011
12 oz. bottle from Sam’s. HoppyScallywag (339) - Butler, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 9, 2014
Ar: Up front, toffee and nutty notes.
Ap: Pours a clear dark brown-copper with a nice, frothy 1" head. Great lace rings.
T: Strong toffee nutty flavors. Finish has some pine, and maybe even a touch of booze.
P: Creamy body, moderate carbonation.
O: Pleasantly surprised with this one.
Dark red, amber color. Hints of chocolate and hints of molasses.....very much like a porter. Yuengling porter comes to mind. Not a very heavy beer. I could drink several. I would get it again if in the mood ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone theshocker (329) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - DEC 5, 2007
Punked! Bastards sold me last years version. It was refridgerated so its stil pretty good. Dark amber color, small head. Spicey aroma, maybe a little peppery. Full bodied, malty, smooth. Spices are very understated and blend well with the beer. Pretty nice.

It poured a dark brown, clear ale, with a light tan, creamy head. A strong malt taste is followed by a balancing hop hit. A true winter seasonal, strong flavored and warming. Heavy mouthfeel with a long lasting aftertaste. Great palate with a lip-smacking, multiple mouth swallowing after each sip. Merc (313) - Pullman, Washington, USA - APR 26, 2002
Poured with a white soapy head, an ominous sign of things to come. Something unpleasantly chemical in both the flavour and aroma - kind of pine-sol, left a detergent fealing on the tounge. Syrupy sweet. Similar to but worse than Rouge's Santas Private Reserve. craig220 (313) - Crofton, Maryland, USA - AUG 3, 2013
Poured a clear, dark amber with a thin light tan head. Aroma is caramel, nuts, raisin, with a bit of earthiness. Taste is coffee, caramel, herbs, with a strong bittersweet finish. TrevorFloyd (309) - Connecticut, USA - SEP 16, 2005
Deep amber color with a medium to thin body, this one tasted of toffee and caramel and maybe a hint of maple. It may only be September, but it gave me a nice dose of early Christmas spirit. 2beerguys (299) - North Shore, Massachusetts, USA - APR 8, 2006
The Prelude Special Ale pours a reddish-amber color with a nice frothy head. Good lacing left behind by the mostly lasting head. Light carbonation in the body. Aroma’s are of light malts, there is something sweet we can’t put our sniffers on, and a faint hint of alcohol. Intial taste is a fleeting sweet that quickly steps aside, being ushered out by a light bitter finish. Light carbonation on the mouth with a watery feel. A slight charcoal taste is left behind.
