Draft at the Anheuser-Busch Biergarten after a brewery tour. Pours a dull, hazy yellow-orange with a big white head. Notes of apples, wheat, candy, and honey. Medium-bodied, with high carbonation and a muddled mouthfeel. Not much to it. But it smells good. And that gives it the edge over other fruited Shock Tops.

TheAlum (7111) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JUN 23, 2014
Draft on tap at the Anheuser Busch Brewery (St. Louis, MO). Pours a well hazed golden amber hue, good haziness and frothy whitish head dies to a mellow ring, laces small. Aromas are potently sweet, apple nectar, sweet sugar and touches of gentle spice, apple pie, flaked wheat and a bit bready. Initial is sweet, almost sickly so. Faint citrus, apple pie and jolly ranchers. Sweeter, not sticky with that potent artificial apple candy flavors. Finish is a touch sticky, red apple and faint spice, deadened wheaty malts. Wow. Thats sweet and a bit messy, but I bet it sells

Foamy and lacy, clear until you swirl the last bit left in the bottle and pour it in. Pale gold. Yeasty nose. Light body, delicate but not weak flavor, very refreshing, well carbonated with a rather coarse mousse, decent length. Very sweet but also crisp, carbonation and refrigeration can help prevent it from being cloying. Apple, yeast, no hop. Good aperitif, interesting combination of beer and cider. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

THOUGHTS: Just about right between a beer and a cider. Quite refreshing. Great beverage. Dont know if I can really call it a beer, though. TECHNICAL: Drank 3/8/2013. Bottle. Poured a hazy, medium to dark yellow with an average to large head that mostly but slowly diminished. The aroma contained light wheat, light to moderate yeast, apple, apple cider and apple skin. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderately acidic and lightly sweet and bitter with a short to average duration. There was wheat, yeast, apple skin, apple, candy candy and apple cider. The light to medium body was fairly dry with soft but tingly carbonation and dry and metallic finish.

More Shock Top. I thought I was done with these, no worries, heres my take on this one. Into a pint glass, the appearance was a fairly amber to light brown color with a decent looking half finger-ed white foamy head that left an exceptionally light lacing trying to cling to the glass but its sliding for the most part. The smell, well, it had the apple, if anything. Did it have anything else? Hmmm...not really. The taste, well, its sweet and it has the apple. On the palate, this one sits pretty light and sessionable. The carbonation seems to be good for the "fruit beer" style. Overall, hey, not a bad Spring beer at all. Would I have it again? Hmmm...maybe if offered, but not one for me to actually seek out.
