From notes. Enjoyed at FoBAB 2017 (3rd session) in Chicago on November 11. Says this is in Heaven Hill barrels. The pour is a watery looking opaque brown/black with a thin ring of bubbly light tan head and a couple spots of lace. This is just about see through, and I’m not digging that one. The aroma is interesting. There is a light chocolate and a hint of coffee before the maltiness comes in. It’s light and a little messy. The barrel brings a light oak and a bit of char with a hint of vanilla. It’s just messy. The flavor is a little better. The chocolate and sweet roasted malt works better together with a light coffee and the strong oakiness. The little vanilla comes through late. The mouth feel is light medium bodied with a soft carbonation and a lingeringly sweet malt and light alcohol. Not terrible. 6 3 7 4 13

Rated on 7-21-2015 (Bottle) The appearance is a very small tan head, opaque dark brown body, some carbonation on the sides of the glass, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is alcohol, chocolate and malt. The flavor is bourbon, chocolate and malt, This beer is medium-full bodied. A very good tasting sipping beer that is definitely worth trying and a beer I would definitely drink again.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy with a frothy top brown colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark black brown colored body and a poor lacing. The nice aroma was brown malt dark malt and bourbon. The mildly vinous semi-thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering bourbon aftertaste. The yummy flavor contained notes of mildly bitter roasted malt oak mildly vinous sweet toasted malt bourbon brown malt and dark malt. A wonderful best in class brew.

Bottle, 2011 Vintage, shared at a Christmas party (just found this rating in a pocket... Yes!). Hearty dark brown with a dense light brown head. Dark caramel, burnt malt, toasted marshmallow, coconut, oaky vanilla, dusty wood. Complex, delicious.

bottleshare thanks to DrewFace. Nose is oily almost coconut with vanilla and booze. Pitch black pour. Taste is a wonderful sweet vanilla and booze with light chocolate. Dangerously drinkable.

DrewFace (970) - Melbourne, Florida, USA - AUG 22, 2014
Huge caramel malt, boozy - bourbony, sweet, light chocolate. Fairly opaque, dark brown - blackish, no head. Sweet, malty, thick, boozy, lots of caramel and toffee flavor, some wood character, very smooth. Some mild alcohol heat in the finish.

Bottleshare thanks to dextercat. Pours black, tan head. Aroma is bourbon in your face. A big sweet. Mouthfeel is thin, surprisingly so. Is a bit sweet, and don’t get the huge bourbon in the taste.

MrSquash (158) - Florida, USA - AUG 22, 2014
Pours dark garnet to black with no head. Smells of figs and steak fruits. Tastes high alcohol up front bit countered by dark bready fruits and a nice warming followup.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate woody aroma. Roasted malty chocolate woody vanilla and bourbon flavor. Has a roasted malty woody chocolate and vanilla finish.

The bottle looks really, really good. Beer in the glass deep black, oily, nice head. Roasty malty aroma. Starts very strong, but not very alcoholic. Heavy-malty, earthy, roasty. Hints of liquorice and bitter chocolate. Finish milder, soft-malty, warming. The alcohol is well hidden. Great beer!
