This one is a hefty wheat wine. Nice wheat flavor dominates. It isnt’ too boozy, not yeast hints. valpoaj (755) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - JUL 22, 2012
Tap pour - came to table in snifter - solid orange/brown color with a very thin light tan head - leaves decent lacing as it disappears. Aroma is medium in strength with notes of roasted sweet malt and toasted wheat and a good dose of caramel, and is quite inviting in my opinion. Flavor is full of sweet, sticky malts, caramel, some hints of dark fruit and smooth wheat notes - I found it to be quite appealing. Palate is thick and resinous - not sure what the ABV is on this beer but it drinks heavy. Lingering sweetness turns bitter before ending. This is the second or third wheat wine I’ve had and I’m ’warming up’ to the style - good offering that I’d definitely enjoy again. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAY 20, 2012
5 oz pour on tap at the brewpub (Michigan City, IN). Pours a rich glowing orange amber hue, touches of darkness, mellow hazy body, a frothy whitish head dies to a ring and laces minimally. Aromas are gentle sticky sweetness, caramel and pale malts, touches of fruity esters, light melange, touches of toffee, smoothed out honey and faint vanilla. Pretty vague. Initial is medium bodied offering some girth and stickiness into the middle and backend. Gentle toffee, flaked wheat, and deeper fruity ester elements. Touches of banana, pear, and some oranges. A sticky syrupy feel, touches of heat. Touches of garbage, fruit, syrup. Sticky and a bit hot, a spicy touch moves in into the finish. An odd one and not at all my style to begin with. Oranges, vanilla, honey, fruity esters from the big wheat bill. Meh. Wouldn’t re-do this. Nose is lacking, body is girthy and sticky, yet lacks character. Too big and odd for me for that actual flavors it offers.
