On tap at Shoreline Brewpub. Dark brown with next to no head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, honey, dark chocolate and darker malts. Taste of honey and chocolate with sugar, alcohol and a touch of fruit. Box to wire honey with a mild burn on the finish. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - MAY 19, 2012
5 oz pour on tap at the brewpub (Michigan City, IN). Pours a rich blackish hue, dark and near opaque with brown edges and light, ruby deep bottom, a small brownish head dies to nothing. Aromas are inviting, toffee and cocoa, roast, and sweet sticky caramel. Gentle kisses of plum, dark fruit, gentle coffee and roast. Initial is fuller bodied offering a lot of cocoa, gentle roast up front. Full sticky body offers caramel, toffee, and quickly hits some raisin, dark fruit elements in the middle. Honey is distinct, with some gentle coffee, more cherry and almost a twang of cough syrup. Feels aged.. More dried dark fruit, mellow molasses, honey, and touches of roast fall out. A sticky finish, with some mellow dark cocoa. Needs more coffee as the big sweetness, dark fruit really take this Imperial Stout over. Meh. Not my jam. Too much dark fruit, cherry, and honey influence and not enough stout. Tmoney99 (14455) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - MAY 7, 2012
Draft. Poured a black color with an average to large frothy brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate, dark honey and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy sweet toasted malt and honey flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a solid beer.
