COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pub Brew. Bourbon Carrot Cake is an experimental dessert ale made with carrots, marshmallow, vanilla, maple syrup, orange zest, walnuts, pecans, and spices and then aged in bourbon barrels. The aroma is enticing, emitting fragrances that literally recreate a slice of carrot cake that has been soaked in bourbon, right down to the cream cheese frosting. Incredibly complex, yet surprisingly balanced, the flavor of each specialty ingredient seems to take its turn. Pleasant flavors of spice and cream resonate on the palate causing an uncontrollable craving to taste more.

Keg at the brewpub. Clear copper, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of carrots, apples, toasted malt, vanilla. Taste is carrots, caramel, vanilla, citrus, whiskey. Medium bodied.

On tap at HopCat Ann Arbor on 12/10/16. Pours clear red with a thin beige head. Aroma of cinnamon, bourbon, malt and rum. Malty flavor with some cinnamon before a boozy finish. I love the regular version of Carrot Cake, but the greatness of that beer is masked by the booziness in this one.

On tap at Hopcat A2. Pours a clear amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma smells like carrot cake with a bourbon bite supporting. Flavor has lots of caramel and bourbon with a carrot cake note underlying.

On draft at HopCat. The pour is a darker ruby color almost bordering on brown. There is a thick ring of light tan head and no lace. The aroma is spicy and interesting. There is a hint of carrot cake and a light vanilla, though it’s drown out with bourbon and oak. The booze is solid. The flavor is much of the same. There is a strong carrot cake booziness and a light vanilla. The unique spiciness is really interesting. The mouth feel is thin and light with a thicker carbonation and a lingeringly strong spiciness on the finish. It’s definitely not a great thing, but it’s not undrinkable.

On tap at Cosmos. Warm bourbon aroma as it warms. Warming and balanced with strong major taste. What a beer!

On tap at the Shorts Anniversary. Pours a nice dark red color. A lot of different flavors blend together nicely and interesting. A tart sweet sugary taste base it off. A slight alcohol back feel. Big creamy feel all around. A big sweet finish. Good stuff. Definitely feel that the original would be better. I really need to try it.

Growler from Sean - thanks! Clear rusty color in the glass with a scattering of white foam. Bourbon and light spice in the aroma (not necessarily carrot). Taste is lightly bitter bourbon with cream and well, carrot (yeah, it’s in there), with doughy cake. Bourbon goes a bit medicinal toward the finish. Interesting.

Draft at shorts. Orangey brown with a beige head. Bourbon, vanilla and light spice. Tastes like a Manhattan with a little white rum.

Damn I wanted this to be a home run but was still real good. Pours a brown with minimal head. Aroma of sweet cream spices and some Bourbon. Taste is lots of barrel with some cream cheese and spices coming through. Medium body light to.medium carbonation. Tasty but I’m guessing the bourbon takes away from the original which I haven’t tried yet.
