Cornholio is a Baltic Porter, which is brewed with lager yeast. This dark beer has a distinctly crisp and refreshing finish. Each participating brewery brought an ingredient from their home state to add to the brew. Short’s contributed Horehound, an herb that has been used for centuries as a medicinal remedy in cough drops, an ingredient in hard candies, and even in beers according to certain historical brewing records. From Delaware, Sam (Dogfish Head) brought beach plums. Nick Floyd contributed a unique red variety of popcorn, which was roasted and then “dry popped” into the beer. As you take a sip of this beer, you will note an aroma of rich roasted malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. The big initial flavors are of sweet plums that eventually become offset by the robust malt and unique herbal accents from the horehound. A subtle burnt bitterness lingers in the aftertaste, but it’s the surprisingly dry finish that ultimately leaves a lasting impression.

S: rotten beets T: tastes like a lager infused plum pits and some weird souring character. This beer sucks. A: looks like a dark lager. Ok head. P: this beer tastes bad and lingers. Thumbs down. Sorry I hate this beer.

Bottle: Poured a black color porter with a small foamy had. Aroma of light roasted malt with some spices and beets notes. Taste is not as eclectic as expected with some roasted malt notes with beet notes being clearly identifiable (even though I am aware that there are no actual beets in this beer as far as I know). Body is light with medium carbonation. Not bad but somewhat bland and not particularly enjoyable.

2012 12oz bottle at the 12K tasting...can’t remember who gifted me this gem but had been hoping for much worse :( Dark brown with beige head. Popcorn, malty, cocacola, plums, sweet. Mild carbonation and moderate body, sweet on the palate but a slightly bitter finish.

Pour black with limited head and medium lacing. Nose is chocolate and fruit. Flavours are espresso, some bubble gum, some tartness. Tastes ligh tart, light sweet and light bitter. Medium body maybe a bit on the light side with medium carbonation.

A dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity molasses, chocolate, dark fruits, figs, very nice. In mouth, a grainy corn malt with light mineral notes, molasses, OK.

12 oz bottle shared with Tmoney99 early 2012. Pours a dark brown color with a medium sized khaki head. The aroma and flavor have some roasted malt, chocolate, plums, herbal notes, horehound candy and light dark spices. Dry finish and a bit odd.

Bottle at crunchy's. Three great breweries, one odd product. Really dark and pruney with some aftertaste I couldn't place.

Hazy amber beer, no head. Zero carbonation in the semi dry palate. Sourish malt. A little vinegar with intense dried fruits. Trace of port wine. Semi dry finish. A little odd, but you would hardly expect anything else from these brewers getting together. Strangely drinkable.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy fine to large sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The thick mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The strange flavor contained notes of thick malty plum. Not one that I would drink again. Amiss as far as I am concerned by 3 of my favorite brewers.

Bottle at home. Traded by Hopscotch. Thanks man! Pours dark brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is light veggy but in a good way, chocolate, some roasted malt and some dried fruits. The flavour is bit tart fruity with some roasted notes. Light veggy and citric tart notes. Bitter light acidic finish with some roasted notes. Another strange and very different beer from Shorts.

12 ounce thanks to MP. Big dark pour. Taste is plum and slightly puckered with the overall feel of a Quad even thought it is a Baltic Porter. Instead of all that chocolate a porter would deliver, the dried fruit is really dominant. Very interesting.
