Tastes very sharp. I like it. This would be good with with a cheesecake. Nutmeg like a mug with peppercorns. ketchepillar (1198) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - AUG 11, 2010
Sampled on tap at the MiBGF (Ypsilanti, MI). Definitely blood orange wheat wine, no doubt about that. Weird spicy chocolate. Very much blood orange tangy. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 10, 2010
Bottled. Poured a very cool rusty blood orange color with a soft, tight-bubbled beige head. The aroma continued the blood orange theme, primarily led by the meat.. juicy citrus surrounded, and spicy pepper was more evident as it warmed up.. warm, but the sugars and spices kept it from feeling anywhere near 11.7%. The flavor was considerably less approachable (still good, but not what I hoped for).. orange meat and pale wheaty malts at the core, with tangy orange zest and lesser earth around.. really dried out in the end, and the peppercorns topped grainy sugars and alcohol warmth on the finish. Medium-plus bodied and kind of slick on the palate.. transitions through the mouth were only decent.. overall a complex and intriguing brew that wasn’t far from being great. mar (5417) - Dallas, Texas, USA - AUG 10, 2010
pretty sure this goes here, bottle thanks to thirdeye11. poured orange/amber with no head. nose is sticky caramel and sweet oranges. great on the palate, flavor is oranges, sticky hops, overly sweet, and a hoppy finish. KyotoLefty (10264) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUL 29, 2010
Shared by Sleestack on the RBSG Friday Bus. Thanks, Man! This is great. Beautiful orange-brown color with just a little lace. Huge, spicy, pepper and orange aroma with wheat. It’s tart, with great orange. You can really taste the pepper. Smooth, a beautiful beer. Love it!

12oz bottle from hoppymeal.
Pours a shockingly clear reddish amber with a small wispy head that recedes to a tiny collar and leaves no lacing, just some sticky legs along the side.
The aroma is fascinating and certainly has a dominant orange presence. Very thick and rindy orange aroma with sweet wheat and hints of spices and pepper. Still, it’s a massively sweet citrusy nose with the blood oranges bringing a completely new twist.
The taste is seriously sweet as well but the tartness of the blood oranges and thick wheat presence seem to balance out the sweet citrus. The finish is bitter and burns with alcohol.
Mouthfeel is sticky sweet and thick on the palate with low soft carbonation.
I’m extremely pleased with this one and I really enjoyed what the blood oranges bring to the table. Big, complex brew. Not extremely drinkable but quite a sipper. SamsCellar (24) - Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - JUL 25, 2010
A very unique beer both in aroma & flavor, reminiscent of a raspberry lambic, but dry hopped. NOT a traditional barley wine. 12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours bright ruby orange/red, with no head. Smells of sweet berries and floral hops. Light bodied, with a thin texture, but an explosion of flavor: blood oranges, coriander, piny hops, spicy ground peppercorn? If not for the hoppy kick, my wife would love this beer (borderline fruity chic beer), however the orange-zest-peppercorn-hop combo will appeal to the hard core beer enthusiast. Very experimental, very good. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - JUL 25, 2010
Sampled on draft at the RBSG Grand Tasting. Dirty orange pour with barely any head. Aroma is pretty different, spice and sweetness, orange. One of the bras I was drinking with spouted off all the different stuff in this beer. It’s sweet, it’s got a spice zing, Lots of fruit. Slick palate. Pretty different, actually, and a cool place to start on the long drinking night that was the RBSG grand tasting. Drake (13739) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 25, 2010
12 ounce bottle shared at RBSG by sleestak. Thanks! Pours a lightly hazy copper color with a thin head. Decent head retention and lacing. Spicy, peppery aroma deep orange notes, other citrus and toffee. The taste is big spicy pepper notes, tart orange notes and faint caramel. Medium-full bodied. A bit too tart but still quite nice. flatmatt (1576) - Northville, Michigan, USA - JUL 24, 2010
On tap at MBGSF 2010. Pours copper with an off-white head. Aroma is heavy on citrus and pine, seemingly from both hops and herbs. Flavor is again heavily citrusy, combining lemon zest and grapefruit, orange, pine, perhaps juniper berry? Bittersweet.
