COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Anniversary Ale is a high-gravity wheat wine made with blood oranges. Flavors range from the spiciness of green peppercorns to the tang of blood orange zest. Aggressive dry hopping of Simcoe hops amplifies the citrus overtones and spiciness found throughout the beer. Anniversary Ale typifies Short’s Brewing Company by embodying all of the complexities that come along with another year of brewing.

Sample from bottle shared at RBSG by ?. Thanks! Pours a hazy orange amber color with a thin head. The aroma was orange citrus, spicy, peppery, acidic and toffee. The flavor is spicy pepper notes, tart orange notes and rich caramel, with moderate acidity. Medium-full bodied. Like many of Shorts beers, interesting and well worth trying.

12oz courtesy of Desaparecido. Poured a hazy ruby red grapefruit color with a small head that had little retention or lace. Massive piney/resiny hop nose hints at what may be a sweet, sticky DIPA. Taste has perfume, blood orange spiciness and tartness, hop oils, lots of peppercorns coming through that at first hint at massive booziness/spicy alcohol but the body stays spicy and very dry with no warming alcohol even at near 12%. Very good.

growler courtesy shared by Jdubfl. pours amber, tan head, told it was a wheat wine, not sure about the barley wine. aroma, tart and fruity, some grains? and yeasty. flavors, malty, plenty of pinety hops, drinks like a soapy boozy DIPA with lots of hop flavors. Hints of honey like sweetness, fizzy citrus/tangy finish.

12oz bottle, thanks to hubsluvsbeer and mikem409. Clear orange color. Little white head. Pretty decent lace. Big body, kind of sticky. light carbonation. Real big orange flavor, light sweet orange alcohol bite along with it. I kind of dig how aggressive and over the top that orange flavor is, though, so Shorts. Big peppercorn.. Some light raspberry type flavor, from the blood orange.... Very zesty, sort of moderate sweet taste. Some alcohol warmth, but the beer is pretty tasty overall so it’s easy to cut through that. Good, big beer. Impressive in that distinctive oddball Shorts way

Pour on tap at Beer Grotto, slightly hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of sweet orange, bread, pepper, some slight spice, hints of sweet sugar, slight white fruit. Taste was a mix of orange, sweet fruit, lemon, some bready, biscuit malt, touch of vanilla, slight spice, pepper, finishing fairly sweet.

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2012 Fuck yes. Blood oranges so unbelievably fresh and zesty, prickly and citruscy. Huge frothy and full texture, agressively hopped but not overly bitter. Wonderfully fresh and juicy. Just awesome.

GABF 2011. Murky burnt orange, no head. Intriguing aroma of toffee and caramel malt, mild grassy bitterness, and some cream cheese icing. Flavor has some sweet funky toffee, mild grassy herbal bitterness, some light citrus fruit tones, a faint bit of floralness, balanced between sweet and bitter on a big-medium body. Nothing amazing, but well made.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a bright amber color with a medium white head. A interesting nose with floral, pepper and orange notes. The flavor has tartness, orange peel, spicy pepper, a bit of kick in it and alcohol. Unusual. Almost like a well made cocktail. A thin palate.

Bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.; thanks mikem409). Looks good for the style; a transparent vibrant orange with thin white lacing. Smells solid; sweet and boozy with a bit of pepper and a nice orange backbone. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Courtesy of jdubFL, wow! thanks Justin! Growler poured out clear copper with thin off white head. The aroma is IIPA like with fresh rich citrus, pine and grassiness and then a mild malt like sweetness. The taste is yummy with fresh rich citrus flavors, some pine hop bitterness, spicy rye notes, some drying malt roastiness and a thin layer of sweet maltiness. These notes all head off into the finish with the addition of a pleasing black tea like sensation that brings the whole thing together. This beers is fresh, rich citrus, robust, pummeling hops and yet manages to create a semblance of balance too. Wow! I need a keg or two of this.
